Sewanee Baseball Rallies Past Panthers Late to Earn Series Split

HANOVER, Ind. - It looks like the second time is the charm, as the Sewanee baseball team, who attempted to overcome from an 18-run deficit on Wednesday, were successful in coming from behind a three-run deficit on Thursday, defeating the Panthers of Hanover College, 5-4.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-After scoring 21 runs in the series opener on Wednesday, the Panthers started the scoring in the first with a sacrifice fly.

-In the third, Sewanee evened the contest with an RBI single that scored Braxton Swanson.

-However, in the bottom half of the frame, the home team reclaimed the lead with a home run.

-Hanover added a run in the sixth to lead 3-1, going into the late innings.

-Sewanee cut the deficit to one run in the eighth thanks to a solo shot by Chris McNulty.

-The Panthers responded in the bottom half with a base hit to make it a two-run deficit once again, 4-2.

-In the ninth, needing two runs to tie and three to take the lead, the Tigers were down to their final out. With runners on second and third base, Garrett Liebe scored on a Hanover error.

-Trailing 4-3, McNulty recorded a bases-clearing hit, scoring Wesley Christian and Brandvold to give Sewanee the 5-4 advantage.

-Danny McDonnell allowed a hit in the bottom half of the ninth, but put up a zero on the scoreboard to secure the victory for his fourth save of the season.

SEWANEE KEY STATISTICS
-The hitting streak advances to nine for Riley Brandvold with a single in the fifth.

-Jack Galanek, Chris McNulty and Tyler Dunbar each recorded a multi-hit game for the Tigers. McNulty's two hits came in the final two innings: a homer in the eighth and the go-ahead, two-run base hit.

-Lucas DeSantis (2-0) recorded the win, as he pitched the eighth inning.

HANOVER KEY STATISTICS
-Spencer Coop record a 2-fr-5 game as eight of the nine batters in the contest recorded a hit.

-George Dant (0-2) allowed the three unearned runs in the ninth and suffered the loss.

UP NEXT
The Tigers will next travel to Centre to resume Southern Athletic Association play. The series begins on Saturday from Danville, Ky.
