SUNY Oneonta Splits Doubleheader with Anna Maria

The SUNY Oneonta baseball team split their doubleheader against Anna Maria College Thursday afternoon at historic Sanford Memorial Stadium. The Red Dragons took game one 14-7 before dropping the nightcap 7-2.

The Inside Story
In game one, Oneonta jumped on the board in the bottom of the first when James Zupo drove in James Ceparano with a double down the left field line. The Red Dragons added to their lead in the bottom of the second on a Sean McGlynn double to left center, scoring Jonathan Lezette to make it 2-0.

After the AMCATS cut the deficit in half in the top of the third, Oneonta broke the game open with seven runs on six hits in the bottom of the inning. With bases load, David Deberardinis grounded sharply to first, but the ball was bobbled allowing Dominic Lamonica to score from third. Jonathan Lezette followed with a two-run ground rule double to centerfield, scoring James Zupo and John Zinko to up the Oneonta lead to 5-1. Patrick McGee kept the line moving with a sacrifice fly to left, scoring Deberardinis from third. After a Ryan McGrane walk, James Ceparano singled to left center, scoring Jonathan Lezette with the fifth run of the inning. Dominic Lamonica capped of the inning with a two-run double into the right centerfield gap, increasing the Oneonta lead to 9-1.

Dominic Lamonica paced the Oneonta offense by going 3-for-4 with four RBI and a run scored. Jonathan Lezette was 2-for-2 with three runs scored and a pair of RBI while James Ceparano and James Zupo added two hits apiece. Sophomore starter Dean Langman earned his first win of the season after allowing four runs on nine hits in five innings of work.

In game two, the Oneonta offense struggled to get the bats going as the AMCATS held the Red Dragons to just five hits. Trailing 3-0 in the fifth inning, Jonathan Lezette drove in both Oneonta runs with a home run over the right centerfield fence.

What's Next
The Red Dragons return to action tomorrow, March 13th when they battle Nationally Ranked Rhodes College at 1:30pm at Lake Bonny Park in Lakeland, Florida.
