Game 2 – CWRU 2, Ohio Wesleyan 1

Smodilla was strong in his first start of the campaign, allowing just a pair of singles and three walks in the game, while striking out six batters. He earned the victory to improve to 4-1 on the year, while lowering his ERA to 1.54.

The game was scoreless until the top of the fourth, when Ohio Wesleyan took the lead without a hit in the frame, scoring a run on a balk after a pair of walks and a groundout put runners on second and third with two outs.

The score remained 1-0 until the bottom of the fifth. Sophomore catcher Jack Anderson reached on an error to start the inning and came across to score the tying run two batters later, on an RBI double by sophomore outfielder Jonathan Simon. Mackenzie followed with a double of his own, driving in Simon to give the Spartans a 2-1 advantage.

Smodilla worked around a single and a walk in the sixth to hold Ohio Wesleyan scoreless. Carinci entered the game to pitch the seventh, maneuvering around a base hit and a walk and inducing a ground out to third base to lock up his second save of the day and fifth through five tries this season.
