Keystone Falls Twice in D3 Showcase

KANNAPOLIS, N.C. - The Keystone College baseball team fell twice on Saturday in the D3 Showcase, dropping a 7-0 decision to #3 Marietta College before losing to Christopher Newport University 9-1.
 
The Giants (1-2) will now prepare for the Mr. V Memorial Classic hosted by Shenandoah University from March 4-6. Keystone will take on the host Hornets (5-1) twice and SUNY Oswego (1-1).
 
Game One: #3 Marietta 7, Keystone 0
 
The Giants gave up four runs in the fourth and three more in the sixth to the No. 3 ranked Pioneers to begin Saturday.
 
Offensively, Jason Thomas (Miami, Fla./Barbara Goleman) began the day with a leadoff double down the right-field line and finished 1-for-3 on the day. Chris Hadsall (Lehman, Pa./Lake Lehman)JD Barret (Moosic, Pa./Dallas)t, RJ Gouldsbury (Throop, Pa./Mid Valley)Luis Francisco (Laceyville, Pa./Stroudsburg), and Wynston Dyer (Columbia, S.C./Spring Valley) all collected base hits.
 
On the hill, Patrick Adamski (Kingston, Pa./Wyoming Valley West) earned the start and suffered the defeat, as the righty tossed five innings, scattering five hits while striking out three. Adamski threw 78 pitches and forced six groundouts and five flyouts. Julian Gonzalez (Bayonne, N.J./Bayonne) threw two frames in relief while Isaac Neal (Schnecksville, Pa./Parkland) threw one inning out of the bullpen.
 
For the Pioneers, the one-two hitters of Turner Hill and Damian Yenzi combined for four hits and six RBI. Trent Valentine and Sam Mathews combined for the shutout with seven strikeouts.
 
Game Two: CNU 9, Keystone 1
 
CNU plated three runs in the bottom of the first and used an 11-hit effort to hand the Giants an eight-run loss.
 
Keystone finished with seven hits as Hadsall and Vince Montone (Oak Ridge, N.J./Jefferson Township) both collected doubles. Barrett drove in the team's lone run on an RBI single up the middle in the fifth and finished the night 2-for-3.
 
Dyer, Gouldsbury, and Pedro Abreu (Bronx, N.Y./Santa Teresa) all notched base knocks.
 
Brandon Valles (Toms River, N.J./Toms River North) earned the start and tossed 2.2 innings with two strikeouts, throwing 53 pitches with five flyouts. Nick Gravel (Sidney, N.Y./Sidney)Logan Lixie (Tamarac, Fla./J.P. Taravella), and Braden Green (Fort Lauderdale, Fla./Fort Lauderdale) appeared in relief and combined for three punchouts.
 
For the Captains, Dylan Weber earned the win with 10 strikeouts in seven frames. Scott Crosson finished 4-for-5 with two runs scored.
