MONTGOMERY, Ala. -  The Edgewood College Baseball team Baseball team opened a three-game set at Huntingdon with a 9-3 win on Friday night. The Eagles used a couple big innings at the plate, and got another outstanding game from the pitching staff in the non-conference win.

EAGLES 9, HAWKS 3
- With the score tied 1-1 heading into the top of the third, the Eagles (1-3) posted their first big inning of the night with four runs. Cooper Holewinski delivered a two-run single in the frame, while Adam Cairo and Connor Goodwin each drove in runs with singles as well.

- The Eagles would tack on a run in the top of the fourth on a Joseph Kalafut RBI single before Goodwin highlighted a three-run sixth inning with a two-run home run over the right field wall. Cairo added another RBI single in the frame, as both he and Goodwin finished with a team-high three RBI.

- Kyle Jungers picked up the win on the mound, allowing just one run in five innings of work. The Eagles used four pitchers out of the bullpen to close out the win with Nick Holland, Garrett Redner, Matthew Turner, and Conner Dunfee providing scoreless appearances. Together, the Eagles staff allowed just four hits, none going for extra bases.

- The Hawks plated a couple runs in the seventh to bring the score to 9-3. Redner entered in another tough situation but the reigning NACC Pitcher of the Week allowed the Eagles to escape allowing just the two runs in the frame. He ended the inning with a huge strikeout to keep the Eagles in front, 9-3.

- The staff's performance is even more impressive when considering the Eagles gloves weren't at their best on Friday. The Eagles committed six errors, but the pitching staff continued making good pitches to escape big innings for Huntingdon.

- Edgewood College finished with 12 hits in the game with Cairo leading the way with three. He finished 3-for-5 with the three RBI and two runs scored. Goodwin finished 2-for-4 with two runs scored to go along with his three driven in, while Jacob Slonim scored three times from the leadoff spot, going 2-for-5 at the plate with a triple. Alex Prindle added two hits for Edgewood College.

- Colin Whibbs paced the Hawks with two hits at the plate.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- The Eagles scored nine runs after scoring seven during their three-game opening weekend last week. Of course, last week was the first time the Eagles have played outside all year, and Friday was the third day, and fourth game, the Eagles have been outside this season. With plenty of talent returning from last year's lineup, Friday's performance of big innings and several runs scored is what this Eagles offense hopes for on a consistent basis in 2022.
