Late Inning Heroics Give Baseball Sunday Sweep Of Vassar

ANNVILLE, Pa. – The Lebanon Valley College baseball squad finished off a perfect first weekend at McGill Field with a sweep of Vassar College on Sunday afternoon. The Dutchmen defeated the Brewers 6-4 in the opener before walking off with a 7-6 win in 10 innings in the nightcap.
 
Game 1
LVC (7-5) started off strong with two runs in the first inning. The Brewers (5-6) rallied for four runs in the sixth to take a 4-2 lead. The Dutchmen responded in the bottom half with four runs to take back the lead and earn the victory.
 
Inside the Box Score

  • Dave Mangold had two hits in the game including knocking in the first run on a single up the middle. Ethan O'Loughlin then knocked in a run with a single to right. O'Loughlin started the scoring in the sixth with a sacrifice fly to the gap in left-center.
  • Ryan Murphy had a big hit in the sixth with a single through the right side scoring Andrew Miles with the go-ahead run. Murphy then came around to score on a pinch-hit single by Justin Ranker.
  • Tanner Rock struck out 10 in 5.1 innings of work. He allowed four runs on five hits and two walks before being relieved by Sam Dozier.
  • Dozier got the win after getting the Dutchmen out of the inning with two strikeouts. Michael Williams came on in the seventh to shut the door with two strikeouts to earn the save.

 
Game 2
The Dutchmen (8-5) started strong once again with a three-run third inning and then added a run in the fourth. Vassar (5-7) fought their way back and tied the game with two outs in the ninth on a two-run homer to right-center. The Brewers took a 6-5 lead in the top of the 10th before the Dutchmen scored twice in the bottom half and didn't record an out.
 
Inside the Box Score

  • After a leadoff single by Ryan Murphy to start the 10th, the Brewers pitchers struggled to find the strike zone as the Dutchmen drew four straight walks to come away with the win. Luke Blair and Max Kaplan drew the final two walks of the game to score the tying and winning runs.
  • Shane Stossel had a big game at the plate with three hits and a walk. The first baseman knocked in two runs.
  • Murphy also had a three-hit game and scored a pair of runs.
  • Tommy Moore Jr. pitched six innings to start the game and struck out five. Andrew Spaan pitched the 10th inning to earn the first win of his collegiate career.

 
Who's Next
LVC will be on the road this Tuesday with a 3:30 p.m. game in Langhorne against Cairn University.
