DAVENPORT, Fla. — Keuka College junior Spencer Brown (Feura Bush, N.Y. / Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk) struck out a school-record 14 batters as the Wolves defeated Knox College 9-2 on Monday on their spring baseball trip in Florida.

Brown went the distance on the mound for Keuka College (2-3), throwing a nine-inning complete game. At the plate, Nick Brown (Liverpool, N.Y. / Liverpool) led the way with three hits, two of which were doubles.

Knox College struck first as they loaded the bases with no outs in the second. Brown got a strikeout, but a single plated two runs for the Prairie Fire. Brown rebounded with a pair of strikeouts to limit the damage.

The Wolves quickly responded. RJ Murphy (Syracuse, N.Y. / West Genesee) led off the bottom of the inning with an inside-the-park home run. Nick Boyle (Chenango Forks, N.Y. / Chenango Forks) followed with a single and worked his way around the bases. He would later score on a groundout to tie the game at 2-2.

The Green and Gold took control of the game in the third. Keuka had their first five batters reach base safely. Nick Boyle had an RBI single for the Wolves and with the bases loaded, Jimmy Griffin (Syracuse, N.Y. / East Syracuse-Minoa). The Wolves added runs on a fielder's choice, a throwing error, an RBI single by Nick Brown, and a sacrifice fly. When the dust settled, the Wolves had six runs in the inning and a commanding 8-2 lead over Knox.

The rest was in the hands of Brown. He struck out eight over the final six innings while allowing just three hits. Keuka added a run in fifth on a Matt Vacarro (Fayetteville, N.Y. / Fayetteville-Manlius). Spencer Brown closed out the game in style. He recorded all three outs in the ninth with the strikeout as the Wolves defeated the Prairie Fire 9-2.

• Monday was the first-ever meeting between Keuka College and Knox College
• Brown broke the previous single-game strikeout record of 12 held by Simon Mills and Jeremy Pyszczynski
• Spencer Brown pitches nine innings in a game for just the tenth time in program history
• He is the second Empire 8 pitcher to go nine this season. Brown currently has the most strikeouts in a game by any pitcher in the Empire 8 Conference
• It was the first home run RJ Murphy's career
