Ten Run Third Inning Lifts Centenary Over John Jay

HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. – A ten-run third inning helped power the Centenary University baseball team to a 13-7 win over John Jay College on Tuesday afternoon at Our Diamond of Dreams.

The Cyclones snapped a two-game losing streak as every member of the starting line-up had at least one hit in the game.

The Bloodhounds took an early lead in this one as Ethan Simaan had a triple to center that plated two runs in the top of the first.

Centenary exploded for 10 runs in the bottom of the third. The Cyclones sent 13 men to the plate in that inning and recorded eight hits. Jon Fleck launched a two-run home run to right field while Cole Heitzman and Anthony Vassallo each had RBI triples in the frame. Brandon Smith knocked a bases clearing single to center for three RBIs as well.

John Jay made it a 10-3 game with a run in the top of the fourth.

Centenary got that run back in the bottom of the fifth as Jake Keenan scored on an error by the Bloodhounds.

John Jay made it an 11-6 game with three runs in the top of the sixth.

Centenary got a run in the bottom half of that frame as Heitzman scored on Paul Links' groundout.

The Cyclones added one more run and made it a 13-6 game in the seventh as Fleck scored on Kris Mankin's infield single.

John Jay got a run in the top of the eight but that was it as Centenary claimed the 13-7 win.

Aidan Hixenbaugh earned the win in relief for the Cyclones as he went two plus innings and gave up three runs on two hits. Fernando Sladky took the loss for John Jay as he gave up eight runs on eight hits in 2.1 innings of action.

Links had three hits, two RBIs and a run scored for the Cyclones. Fleck contributed two hits, three runs scored and two RBIs while Smith had two hits and three RBIs.

Centenary is back in action on Friday, Mar. 25 when it opens Atlantic East play by visiting Marywood at 3 p.m.
