More news about: Plattsburgh State

Plattsburgh, N.Y. - First -years Adam Wein (North Rockland, NY/Don Bosco Prep) and Kolby Mordecki (Poughkeepsie, NY/Roy C. Ketcham) had strong days to power Plattsburgh State baseball to their ninth win of the season, as they defeated SUNY Poly 14-3 on Monday afternoon. Wein went 4-4 with four runs scored and three RBIs and Mordecki went five innings, allowing zero earned runs and striking out four.

The Cardinals were the first to get on the scoreboard in the non-conference matchup, as Nolan De Melfi (Shirley, NY/William Floyd) doubled to left field, scoring Mike Rasquin (Garden City, NY/Garden City) in the first inning. Wein singled home a run in the following inning and a SUNY Poly error allowed two more runs to score in the second as well. Leading 4-0, the Wildcats got on the scoreboard tanks to a Plattsburgh error, but Wein once again singled home a run, pushing the lead back to four runs for the Cardinals.

The bottom of the fourth inning proved to be the separating factor in the afternoon matchup, as the Cards scored six runs in the frame. After a run scored on another Wildcat error, Alex Kornblau (Pound Ridge, NY/Fox Lane) singled in two runs, pushing the lead to 8-1. Wein once again singled in a run soon after, with another run coming home on the play due to a SUNY Poly error. Plattsburgh tallied their final run of the inning with another RBI single, this time from Conner Gonzalski (Cicero, NY/Cicero-North Syracuse).

The Cardinals added three more runs in the game, as Adam Roman () had an RBI single in the 8th and Nick Cergol (Mount Sinai, NY/Mt. Sinai) singled to center to bring in a run in the 8th as well. Nine different Plattsburgh players had a hit, with Kyle Cremin (Yorktown Heights, NY/Kennedy Catholic) and De Melfi earning the only extra base hits. Rasquin and Kornblau reached three times with a single and two walks each with Rasquin scoring twice and Kornblau scoring once.

Mordecki picked up his second win with five strong innings as the first-year allowed only four hits and walked just one. He matched his career high for innings pitched, after he threw five strong against Maine Presque-Isle on the team's Florida trip. Ryan Nista (East Greenbush, NY/Columbia) and Miguel Ramos, Jr. (Monroe, NY/Monroe-Woodbury) each threw scoreless innings out of the pen, as Nista struck out two batters.

The team will travel to Clarkson tomorrow, April 5th, for a 3 p.m. game against the Golden nights before returning home for their SUNYAC series opener versus ranked Oswego State.
