Santoro Equals Hit Record As Dutchmen Hit Three Homers In Second Inning To Defeat Eastern

ANNVILLE, Pa.Nico Santoro tied the Lebanon Valley College baseball record for hits in a game with six as the Dutchmen slugged their way to a 21-10 victory over Eastern University on a chilly afternoon at McGill Field in Annville.
 
LVC (20-12, 8-3 MAC Commonwealth) scored a run in the first and then broke the game wide open with a big 14-run second inning in which they hit three home runs. The Dutchmen added two more runs in the third to take a 17-0 lead. The Eagles (10-23, 3-8 MAC Commonwealth) got on the board with a run in the sixth. Lebanon Valley responded with a run of their own in the bottom half before Eastern put a dent into LVC's lead with a six-run sixth. The Dutchmen scored their final three runs in the bottom of the sixth. Eastern added a run in the seventh and two in the eighth to set the final.
 
Inside the Box Score

  • Santoro tied the record held by Tim Rink who had six hits at Widener on April 16, 2003. The junior knocked in three runs and scored three runs in seven total at-bats with two doubles.
  • Shane Stossel hit the first of three home runs in the second inning with a grand slam to center field on the first pitch he saw to give the Dutchmen a 9-0 advantage.
  • Conor Smith hit his fifth career home run with a shot down the right field line scoring Santoro to make it 13-0. Four pitches later Mike Bulgia hit the back wall beyond the walking path in the outfield of McGill Field with his team-leading fifth homer of the year.
  • Smith finished with four hits, four RBIs, and three runs scored while Bulgia had three hits, three RBIs, and two runs scored.
  • Luke Blair had three hits and scored three runs. Andrew Miles and Pete Botbyl had two hits each.
  • 10 Dutchmen recorded a hit in the game including all nine starters as LVC recorded a season-high 24 hits. The Dutchmen had seven extra-base hits including four doubles and three home runs.
  • Tommy Moore Jr. pitched five strong innings with five strikeouts to pick up his second win of the year. Sam Dozier struck out three in 1.1 innings of strong relief while Dylan Lower struck out two in the eighth.

The Dutchmen will be right back on McGill Field tomorrow afternoon with a recently added game against Penn State Harrisburg. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. in Annville.
