Stossel Two Homers, Fetterman Grand Slam Gives Baseball Sweep Of Alvernia

ANNVILLE, Pa. – Jace Fetterman hit his first career grand slam in the eighth inning of game two to give the Lebanon Valley College baseball team an 8-5 victory over visiting Alvernia University and a sweep of the Golden Wolves on Saturday at McGill Field. Shane Stossel hit two home runs in a 10-5 game one victory.

Game 1

The Dutchmen (22-13, 10-3 MAC Commonwealth) got on the board in the first inning and scored three times in the second and third to take a 7-1 lead. Alvernia (14-20-1, 7-4 MAC Commonwealth) cut into the lead with a three-run fifth. LVC responded with one run in the bottom of the inning and then two more in the seventh.

Inside the Box Score

  • Stossel hit his first homer in the second inning on a 1-0 pitch blasting a shot under the scoreboard in left. He doubled home a run in the third and then almost hit the same exact spot as his first homer with a two-run blast in the seventh on the first pitch he saw.
  • Nico Santoro knocked in a pair of runs and had two hits in the leadoff spot. He also scored a run.
  • Andrew Miles and Ryan Murphy scored two runs each.
  • Tanner Rock had another strong start striking out two in eight innings of work. He received a lot of strong defense behind him and had four innings where nobody reached base. Rock needed just four pitches in the third and eight pitches in the fourth.
  • Brendan Landry pitched a 1-2-3 ninth with one strikeout.

Game 2

Alvernia (14-21-1, 7-5 MAC Commonwealth) scored a run in the first on a bases-loaded hot-by-pitch. LVC (23-13, 11-3 MAC Commonwealth) scored the same way in the second to tie things up. The Golden Wolves took the lead with two runs in the sixth. The Dutchmen scored three in the seventh before Alvernia responded with two runs in the eighth to take a 5-4 lead. Fetterman cleared the bases with his sixth homer of the year in the bottom half to give LVC the lead for good.

Inside the Box Score

  • Fetterman basted the first pitch he saw over the fence in right-center. He also drew a walk in the game and scored two runs.
  • Nico Santoro had two hits in the game to extend his hitting streak to 20 games.
  • Stossel pitched 5.1 strong innings with three strikeouts. At the plate, he had another big game with three hits, two RBIs, and a run scored.
  • Miles recorded two hits and scored in the seventh inning on a failed pickoff attempt.
  • Kyle Kingsbury earned his fourth win of the year with 3.2 innings of strong relief. The senior struck out five including the first two batters of the ninth inning.

Lebanon Valley heads north to Scranton on Tuesday for a non-conference game at the University of Scranton under the lights. First pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m. in the Electric City.
