Dutchmen Power Past Scranton In The Rain

SCRANTON, Pa. – Conor Smith and Mike Bulgia hit two run-homers as the Lebanon Valley College baseball team earned a huge 14-6 road non-conference win at Scranton on a rainy Tuesday evening under the lights of Volpe Field in Scranton.

The Dutchmen (24-13, 9-3) defeated the Royals (23-8-1) who were receiving votes in both weekly polls that came out yesterday. Smith got the Dutchmen on the board in the first with a two-run shot to right field. Scranton scored three in the fourth and then one in the fourth to take a 4-2 lead. LVC scored four runs in the top of the fifth before the Royals evened things up with two runs in the bottom of the inning. Bulgia gave the Dutchmen the lead for good with his home run in the sixth. Lebanon Valley added three runs in the seventh and three in the ninth to set the final score.

Inside the Box Score

  • Bulgia finished the game with four hits and four RBIs while scoring two runs. His sixth home run of the year cleared the high wall in center field.
  • Smith tied the program record with two triples in the game. He went 3-5 with four RBIs and three runs scored.
  • Luke Blair had three hits including a double and knocked in two runs.
  • Nico Santoro led off the game with a single to center to give him a hit in 21 consecutive games. He now has 61 hits on the year, just two shy of the program record.
  • Tommy Moore Jr. pitched three innings and struck out two. He allowed three runs, two earned, on one hit and three walks. Brendan Landry was awarded the win as the pitcher of record with two innings of relief of Moore.
  • Malachi Duka and Jacob Horton both pitched two hitless innings and struck out three batters apiece.
  • This is the 15th time this year the Dutchmen have scored more than 10 runs in a game.
  • LVC hit a home run for the fourth straight game and now have 34 on the season. This was the eighth time they have hit multiple home runs in a game.
  • The Dutchmen improve to 4-1 against teams in the Landmark Conference this year beating all four teams that are in position to qualify for the Landmark Tournament.

Who's Next

The Dutchmen will wrap up the regular season at McGill Field on Saturday with Senior Day against Stevenson University. LVC will honor their eight seniors prior to game one which begins at 12 p.m. in Annville. The Dutchmen need just one win over the Mustangs to clinch the top seed in the conference tournament and their first regular season championship.
