NEW PALTZ, N.Y. - Cortland scored four runs in the top of the 10th inning on a Kameron Hartenstein (Meriden, CT/Maloney) pinch-hit RBI single and a Scott Giordano (Croton-on-Hudson/Croton-Harmon) three-run homer, and the nationally 13th-ranked Red Dragons held on for an 8-7 victory over host New Paltz in the first game of a scheduled doubleheader.

The second game was postponed due to rain, and the teams will play a doubleheader Saturday at noon at SUNY Oneonta's field.

Giordano finished 3-for-6 with three RBI, Andrew Michalski (Buffalo/St. Francis) was 2-for-5 with three RBI, and Danny Coleman (Saratoga Springs) and Matthew Krafft (Cornwall) each were 2-for-4 for Cortland (28-10, 13-3 SUNYAC).

Dean Stalzer homered twice and drove in three runs, Dillon Ristano was 2-for-4 with an RBI, Tommy Kreider went 2-for-5 with two RBI and Michael Boccarossa was 2-for-5 with an RBI and two runs for New Paltz (14-20, 6-10 SUNYAC). The Hawks rallied to tie the game in both the seventh and ninth innings, and almost did so again in the 10th.

Cortland took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second on a Michalski RBI fielder's choice, but Stalzer's solo tied the game in the bottom of the inning. The Red Dragons put up two runs in the sixth on a Michalski two-out, two-run single, but the Hawks re-tied the game in the seventh on a Boccarosa leadoff single and a Stalzer homer - his 13th of the season.

Paul Franzese (Somers) pinch hit with one out in the top of the eighth and homered to give the Red Dragons a 4-3 lead. The game remained at 4-3 until the bottom of the ninth. Cortland retired the first two batters before Kreider reached on an infield single. Ristano followed with an RBI double to tie the game. Mike Hennessy (Stony Brook/Smithtown East) entered and induced a groundout to end the inning. He was credited with the win as he was the pitcher of record when Cortland took the lead in the 10th.

Cortland's 10th inning started with a Krafft single and a steal. Hartenstein singled to give Cortland the lead, and following a Michalski single, which resulted in an out at third, and an Antonio Pragana (Hopewell Junction/John Jay) hit by pitch, Giordano hit a three-run blast to give Cortland an 8-4 lead.

For New Paltz in the bottom of the 10th, Nick Harvey walked with one out and Joe Patane singled. After a passed ball advanced the runners, Boccarossa drove in a run with an infield single to make it 8-5. Zack Durant (Verona/V-V-S), who started the inning on the mound for Cortland, was replaced by Shane Mugnolo (Howard Beach/Xaverian) at that point. The Red Dragons elected to intentionally walk Stalzer, and Mugnolo struck out the next batter for the second out. Kreider's two-run single made it 8-7 and put the potential tying run on third, but Mugnolo secured his third save of the season after getting a groundout to second.

Cortland starter Ryan Flansburg (Queensbury) struck out a career-high nine batters over seven innings. He allowed only four hits and no walks and gave up three runs. New Paltz starter Billy Moeller permitted three runs on six hits with two walks and three strikeouts in five and two thirds innings.
