At the Plate

  • Schwarzman and Reyna tied a record set by Daniel Shepherd in 2018 and tied by Andrew Wenner in 2019 with their four steals. The Division III single game high this season is five by Fitchburg State's Liam Goldstein and Western Connecticut's Nick Lepere.
  • Schwarzman went 3-for-5 with two runs scored, while Reyna had two hits, two RBIs and scored twice.
  • Day had a monster game, going 4-for-6 with a home run, two doubles, four RBIs and scored three times.
  • Stout went 3-for-4 with a home run, a double, five RBIs and three runs scored. 
  • Alex Jenkins had a double, and RBI and scored three times. 

On the Mound

  • Declan Sullivan started the game for the Blazers and threw four complete innings, allowing three runs with only one earned on four hits. The first-year student walked three and struck out four.  
  • Colby Childs let in one run on one hit in the fifth inning.
  • Mason Sawyers received the win in relief for the Blazers. He allowed only one hit in a scoreless sixth inning. 
  • Aaron HellerTyler Cooney and Kevin Nelson, Jr. all threw an inning to close out the game. The trio gave up one hit and recorded five strikeouts.

How it Happened

  • The Blazers took the lead in the third inning, as Schwarzman singled with one out. Following a balk by Albright that moved him over to second, he scored on Richard Kershow single up the middle for a Hood 1-0 lead. 
  • Zander Tesoriere reached on an infield single to start the bottom of the third for Albright. He stole second and third and later scored on a Tommy Lewman sacrifice fly out to left field to tie the game up 1-1. 
  • Day gave Hood the lead back to lead off the fourth inning with his second home run of the season. 
  • Ethan Karel and Nick Barton both reached base on back-to-back at-bats to start the bottom half of the fourth. Karel scored on a Deklyn Marks single through the left side. Barton scored on a balk to grab the lead for the Lions 3-2. 
  • In the fifth inning, Albright's Jack Gilmer walked and scored on a two-out Eddie Meredith single up the middle later in the inning to push the lead to  4-2. 
  • The Blazers got their first three runners on base in the sixth inning with a Jenkins walk, a Day double and Jacob Saylor hit-by-pitch. Jack Patterson walked with the bases-loaded to bring in Jenkins. Reyna scored Day on a sacrifice fly to center field. Stout doubled to bring in Saylor and Patterson and the scoring ended on a Schwarzman single up the middle to knock in Stout for a Hood 7-4 lead. 
  • Hood put the game out of reach with an eight-run seventh inning. Day and Saylor each had two hits in the inning, including an RBI double by Day. Schwarzman, who had a run-scoring single in the rally, had two steals in the seventh.
  • The Blazers added two more runs in the eighth inning on a Stephan Sommer single that scored Reyna and a Jenkins double that scored Rhue. 
  • Hood received a two-run homer by Stout in the ninth inning to end the scoring. 

For the Opponent 

  • Barton led the Lions going 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored.
  • Marks ended the game going 2-for-3 with an RBI and a stolen base. 
  • Lewman and Meredith both recorded an RBI.

Notes

  • The Blazers' 19 runs tied the school record set against Northwestern (Minn.) in 2018. 
  • Hood's 19 RBIs in the game tied the school record set against Arcadia in 2018.  
  • Hood improves to 7-3 (1-0) on the year.  
  • Albright dipped to 0-6 (0-1).
