GAME TWO RECAP

The Pioneers used a strong start and an electric finish in the nightcap, to avoid what could have been a disappointing loss.

The Pios led 2-0 after five, only for Whitman to score nine of the next 11 runs to make it 9-4 heading into the final frame. Each of the first five batters reached in the ninth. Ghammachi walked and John Delaney singled and both runners moved up 90 feet on a wild pitch. Jacob Serafini plated the first run of the inning with an RBI single. After a walk to Savant loaded the bases, Thomson worked a bases-loaded walk to cut the deficit to 9-6.

Whitman went to the pen at the point and brought on closer Rylan Burigsay. He struck out the first batter he faced, before Bass singled in front of the right-fielder to make it 9-7. Heron followed with a three-run double into right-center field, with Bass running across home plate as the relay throw came home.

Heron finished the contest 3-4, with a run scored, four RBI, a double and a walk. Serafini added two hits, one run and three RBI and Thomson tacked on three hits (3-4), three runs, one RBI and a walk.

Sophomore Kyle Wilsie looked like he was going to be the game three hero. He went 5.1 innings and allowed four hits, three walks and two runs, while striking out five. The game-three starter opened the game by throwing five scoreless frames, before Whitman scored four runs in the sixth. Senior Tyler Shimabukuro earned the win, after allowing one run over the final 2.2 innings.

Lewis & Clark opened the scoring in the third. Thomson led off with a single, took second on a passed ball and scored on a Heron sac fly.

The Pios added a single run in the fifth. Thomson opened the inning with another single and raced home on a Dylan Mooregroundout.

Whitman used a pair of home runs (solo and 3-run shot) to grab a 4-2 lead in the sixth and then scored four more in the seventh to grab an 8-2 lead.

Lewis & Clark came back with two of their own in the bottom of the inning. Heron and Moore led off the inning with singles and were both in scoring position with two down. Serafini ripped a single to left to score both runners.

The Blues added a single insurance run in the ninth to put a little more pressure on the Pioneers, but it wouldn't be enough to hold off the Lewis & Clark rally.
