Keystone Defeats CSU 38-3 in CSAC Opener

DUNMORE, Pa. – The Keystone College baseball team opened up CSAC play with a convincing 38-3 win over Clarks Summit University at Schautz Stadium in Dunmore on Friday afternoon.

The Giants (8-9, 1-0 CSAC) host the Defenders (4-13, 0-4 CSAC) in a doubleheader tomorrow at 12 p.m.

Keystone tallied 24 hits in the victory, including six homers from Justin Mann (St. John's, Fla./Bartram Trail)Griffin Yastremski (Bath, N.Y./Haverling), Josh Park, Julio Acosta (Elizabeth, N.J./Hudson Catholic)Greg Verano (Raritan, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) and Ethan Statham (Zachary, La./Zachary).

Verano finished the day 5-for-6 with six RBI and five runs scored, including a two-run inside-the-park homer in the fifth. Statham launched a grand slam in the ninth for his first career hit.

The Giants scored six or more runs in four different innings.

Jordan Art (Greenfield Township, Pa./Lakeland) earned the win, tossing five innings with six strikeouts, allowing just two hits and one walk. Tyler Mullen (Scott Township, Pa./Lakeland) tossed three innings in relief with five punchouts while Kade Compeau (Bentley, Mich./Pinconning) finished the contest.
