Wolves Soar Past Hawks

GOWANDA, N.Y. — The Keuka College Baseball team defeated Hilbert College 7-2 in a non-conference game played at Gowanda High School.

Shane Daley (Elma, N.Y. / Iroquois) and Brady Booher (Rochester, N.Y. / Eastridge) each had three hits in the game for Keuka College (4-10, 0-3 Empire 8). Jesse Capitano (Depew, N.Y. / Depew) earned the victory on the mound, pitching six innings and striking out seven.

The Hawks used a pair of walks and a single in the bottom of the first to take a one-run lead. The game would remain 1-0 in favor of the home team until the fourth inning.

After Josh Tryon (Elmira, N.Y. / Thomas A. Edison) was hit by the pitch, Brady Booher reached on a three-base error that scored Tryon and left him on third base. Booher scored on an RBI single by EJ Martinez (Guelph, Ont. / Our Lady of Lourdes). Ethan Drinon (Middleburgh, N.Y. / Schoharie) doubled and then he and Martinez scored on a two-run, two-out single by Shane Daly to give the Wolves a 4-1 lead.

The Wolves added a run in the top of the sixth on an RBI single by Matt Vaccaro (Fayetteville, N.Y. / Fayetteville-Manlius). Capitano would end his outing strong, retiring Hilbert in order in the bottom of the inning, capping it off with a strikeout.

Josh Tryon connected for a solo home run in the seventh. RJ Murphy (Syracuse, N.Y. / West Genesee) added an RBI single in the eighth. The Hawks got one back in the bottom of the inning but Kole Schmerder (Vestal, N.Y. / Vestal) closed it out, pitching the final three innings in the 7-2 victory.

  • Keuka College won its sixth straight against Hilbert College. The Wolves improved to 20-9 all-time against the Hawks
  • Jesse Capitano set a new career-high with seven strikeouts while earning his first career win
  • It was the first three-hit game for Booher and Daley
  • Tryon's solo shot in the seventh was his first of the season and second of his career
  • Keuka College now has four home runs on the season, the most since the 2019 campaign

Up Next for Keuka College: The Wolves get right back on the field on Friday as they open their Empire 8 Conference series with Utica University. Keuka College will face the Pioneers in a single game on Friday and then a doubleheader on Saturday. Due to field conditions, the game has been moved from Keuka College and will be played at Houghton University.
