ASHLAND, Va. -- Senior captain Ryan Boyce (Suffolk) had three hits and two RBIs, while freshman Jacob Miller-Bopp (Barhamsville) added two RBIs, as well, but Hampden-Sydney College dropped a 15-7 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) baseball decision on the road at archrival and nationally-ranked No. 10 Randolph-Macon College on Tuesday afternoon in Ashland. Freshman Kyle Woodall (Mechanicsville) took the pitching setback for the visiting Tigers (15-14, 8-6) against the host Yellow Jackets (24-5, 12-2).

H-SC scored seven runs on 12 hits with no errors … scoring one run in the first inning, three runs in the second and three runs in the sixth. R-MC scored 15 runs on 17 hits with one error … scoring one run each in the first, second, third and fourth innings, two runs in the fifth and nine runs in the decisive sixth.

In the first, sophomore Grayson Harris (Moseley) (2-4) opened the contest with a single to left center field and advanced to second base on a one-out single to left field by Boyce (3-5, 2 RBIs). Following a walk to sophomore Christian Chambers (Midlothian) that loaded the bases, Harris scored the game's first run when Miller-Bopp (1-5, 2 RBIs) reached on a fielder's choice RBI for the early 1-0 lead.

In the second, senior captain Jay Beavers (Alexandria) (2-4) reached on a one-out infield single and moved to second base on a single to left field by freshman Jack Wilson (Petersburg) (1-4, RBI). Harris then drew a walk to load the bases again, before Beavers crossed the plate via an RBI sacrifice fly off the bat of sophomore Jaxon Masterson (Raleigh, NC) (1-5, RBI). Boyce followed with a clutch two-out, two-run double to right field that scored both Wilson and Harris to make it a 4-1 advantage.

In the sixth, Masterson reached on a fielding error that allowed him to advance to second base, and he moved over to third on a fly ball out to right field. Chambers was then hit by a pitch, before Miller-Bopp delivered a run-scoring single to left field that plated Masterson. Sophomore Christian Lancaster (Danville) (1-4) was also hit by a pitch to load the bases yet again … and a walk to freshman Greer Farr (Southern Shores, NC) (1-4, RBI) on a ball four courtesy of the pitch-clock forced Chambers across the plate, while a two-out walk to Wilson brought Miller-Bopp home to give the Garnet & Grey a 7-6 lead.

Freshman Sterling Austin (Petersburg) started on the mound and tossed the first 3.1 innings, the first of eight pitchers for the Tigers, allowing seven hits and four runs, all earned, with one strikeout and one walk. Classmate Jackson Barnette (Ashland) pitched the next 1.1 innings, yielding three hits and two runs, both earned, with no strikeouts and no walks. Kyle Woodall (0-1) followed with one-third of an inning, allowing five hits and four runs, all earned, with no strikeouts and no walks. Classmate Alex Fitz-Hugh (Chesterfield) then faced three batters, yielding no hits and three runs, all earned, with no strikeouts and three walks. Freshman Donnie Evans (Williamsburg) tossed two-thirds of an inning, allowing two hits and two runs, both earned, with no strikeouts and two walks. Classmate Michael Hagin (Richmond) retired the only batter he faced via a fly ball out. Senior Tymothy Hart (Powhatan) pitched a scoreless seventh inning, yielding no hits with no strikeouts and no walks. Freshman Jake Williams (Chesapeake) tossed the final scoreless inning, allowing no hits with one strikeout and one walk.

H-SC will next play on the road again in ODAC action at Washington and Lee University on Saturday, April 15, a doubleheader scheduled to begin at 12 p.m. in Lexington.
