NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The St. Olaf College baseball team overcame a 6-1 deficit to pick up an 11-10 come-from-behind victory over visiting NCAA Division II Concordia University-St. Paul in non-conference play on Wednesday afternoon at Mark Almli Field.

Concordia-St. Paul (16-21) scored six runs in the top of the fourth to open up a 6-1 lead, but St. Olaf (9-13) countered with a seven-run fifth to go ahead by an 8-6 margin. Trailing 9-6, the Golden Bears scored the next four runs to reclaim the lead at 10-9, only for the Oles to get the eventual game-winning two-run single from first year Jack Pettit in the eighth for the final runs of the back-and-forth game.

St. Olaf outhit Concordia-St. Paul by a 13-9 count in the game to overcome 14 walks from eight pitchers in the victory. Junior Joey Glampe and first year Frank Lavin both had three-hit days to pace the Oles, as Glampe was 3-for-4 with a walk, a double, one RBI, and three runs scored, while Lavin was 3-for-4 with a run and three RBI. First year Brendan Goldman also drove in three runs in the win.

Sophomore Chris Blum claimed the first win of his collegiate career after throwing the final two innings for St. Olaf. Junior Owen Manning, sophomore David Scheil, and sophomore Matthew Oberlander all threw scoreless innings to start the game and senior Lucas Warner struck out three over two shutout innings in the fifth and sixth.

The Oles got on the board first in the bottom of the second when Lavin knocked in Glampe, who singled and got to second on a throwing error, with a single to right. St. Olaf held onto the 1-0 lead until Concordia-St. Paul scored six runs on just two hits in the fourth, capitalizing on six walks, three wild pitches, and an error in the inning to go up by five.

St. Olaf put up a crooked number of its own in the fifth, scoring seven runs on five hits to take an 8-6 lead. The Oles got runs on an RBI single by junior Sam Lavin, a bases-loaded walk to Glampe, and a sacrifice fly off the bat of Frank Lavin before Goldman delivered the big hit of the inning with a bases-clearing, three-run double. Sophomore Evan Hammonds capped the inning with a run-scoring single to bring home Goldman.

Frank Lavin recorded his second run-scoring hit of the game with an RBI single to right in the sixth to extend St. Olaf's lead to 9-6. The Golden Bears got a run in the seventh, but Warner left the bases loaded to keep the Oles ahead by two.

Concordia-St. Paul eventually grabbed a 10-9 lead with three runs in the eighth, but the lead did not last long when St. Olaf answered in the next half inning. After back-to-back hits by Glampe and Frank Lavin put two runners in scoring position with one out, Pettit bounced a single up the middle to score the game-tying and go-ahead runs.

Blum allowed a leadoff single but got some help from his defense in the top of the ninth, as senior Avery Von Herrmann made a jumping catch to snare a line drive for the second out and senior Harald Borg threw out an attempted base-stealer at second for the final out.

The Oles return to Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) play on Thursday, April 27 with a 2:30 p.m. doubleheader at Macalester College.
