How It Happened
• After a 1-2-3 top of the first, the Spartans hit the Mustangs with a big first inning. Michael Tinneny opened the scoring with an RBI single to score Gabe Trevena with two outs. Chris Betler plated Tinneny as he ripped a double to center to make it 2-0. Andrew Santarpia closed out the scoring with an RBI single to score Betler with York's third run.
• After a quiet second inning, the Mustangs got on the board in the top of the third with a Graham Sears sacrifice fly. The inning could have been bigger but Connor Pickle threw out a runner at the plate the end the threat. York answered in the bottom of the third as they loaded the bases with one out. Santarpia bombed a bases-clearing double to dead center, pushing the York lead to 6-1.
• Spartan starter Brandon Purdy pitched himself into trouble in the fourth as he walked to first two Mustangs he faced. Kaige Garrity loaded the bases with a single as there was no outs in the inning. Purdy rolled a double play ground ball to allow one run and then got a strikeout to get out of the inning with minimal damage. York kept it rolling in the bottom of the fourth with another two out uprising. Robby Elzinga started the rally with a two-out double to center after Trevena drew a walk. Tinney doubled to right center, scoring both Trevena and Elzinga. Tinneny moved to third on a wild pitch but it wouldn't matter as Betler lined the next pitch over the left field wall for his seventh bomb of the campaign. The Mustangs escaped any further damage but the Spartan lead was 10-2.
• York added a run in the bottom of the fifth on an Elzinga RBI single while they got another single run on a Brett DeWees RBI ground out to second in the sixth. York got their final run on a Kenny Bamrick pinch-hit home run to deep right in the eighth.
