York Win Streak Snapped at #4 Salisbury on Thursday

SALISBURY, MD – The York College baseball team saw their five-game win streak snapped as the #4 Salisbury University Sea Gulls downed the Spartans 8-4 on Thursday in Salisbury, Maryland.
The Spartans came into the game hot but were limited to scoring all their runs in one inning while the Gulls scored in four different frames. Junior third baseman Michael Tinneny also joined the 100-hit club with his first inning single.
The Sea Gulls improve to 20-5 while the Spartans are now 15-5.

How It Happened
• The Sea Gulls opened the scoring in the bottom of the second as lead-off hitter Andrew Kell ripped a double left center to score Trent Waire who singled earlier in the inning.
• The Spartans tried to answer in the third as they had runners at the corners with two outs but the Gulls got out of the inning thanks to a fly out to center. The Gulls went quickly in the third and then both teams were quiet in the fourth.
• York put together their only scoring inning of the game in the top of the fifth. Brett DeWees started off the inning with a walk. Luke Moser sacrificed DeWees to second. Lucas Prendergast singled up the middle, putting Spartans at the corners with one out. After a strikeout, the Spartans were the beneficiary of some Salisbury defensive mistakes as Robby Elzinga plated a run as he drilled a ball to short that was ruled an error. That play allowed DeWees to score, tying the game at one. Elzinga then stole second and Prendergast scored from third as the ball was mishandled at second. Michael Tinneny followed with a bomb to right, giving York a short-lived 4-1 lead.
• The Sea Gulls responded quickly in the bottom of the fifth. A walk and a Kyle Brex double put runners at second and third with no outs. Tim Petrucelli grounded out to second to score the first run of the frame. Brex scored on a ground out to first for the second out of the inning and the Spartans still in front, 4-3. Zach Geesaman entered the game as a pinch hitter and restarted the rally with a double to right center. A Roman March single scored Geesaman, tying the game at four. March eventually came around to score on an Adam Tommer single up the middle, giving the Gulls a lead they would not relinquish.
• The Gulls got a sixth run in the sixth as Geesaman had an RBI single after Spartan reliever Jason Cassidy got two quick outs to start the inning. Salisbury padded the lead with a pair of runs in the bottom of the eighth to provide the final margin of victory.
