Roanoke Baseball cruises to 17-7 win over Ferrum

The Short story: The Roanoke College baseball team outslugged Ferrum College 17-7 Wednesday in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) contest from Salem-Memorial Ballpark. The Maroons have won eight of their last nine games and stand 9-2 in conference play, alone in first place.

How it happened:
*Ferrum opened a 2-0 lead in the first inning but a Jonny Wall two-run double tied it and Hayden Giordano singled to bring in Wall and make it 3-2.
*Wall hit his second of three doubles in the second to bring another Maroon home and RC followed with a four-run third and a three-run fourth to open an 11-4 advantage.
*Kyle Moshier homered as part of a four-run sixth and Roanoke plated single runs in the seventh and eighth frames.

Inside the numbers:
*Moshier was 3-3 on the day with two walks, four runs and two RBI.
*Wall drove in five on the night and Corey Coogan had two hits, two walks and four runs.
*Dylan Bonzon went 2-5 with three RBI, two runs and two stolen bases.
*The Maroons had 15 hits, nine walks and five stolen bases.
*Anthony Sullivan tossed two scoreless innings of relief, striking out three and allowing just one hit. 
*Shawn Baxter had three hits for Ferrum (9-15/2-8 ODAC).

Up Next:
*Roanoke (15-12/9-2 ODAC) travels to Shenandoah University Sunday for an ODAC doubleheader starting at noon. The twinbill against the seventh-ranked Hornets was moved back from Saturday.
