Bison Roll Past Anna Maria, 12-2

DUDLEY, Mass. (4/29/2024) – The Nichols College baseball team continued their home stand with a 12-2 win over Anna Maria on Monday afternoon from the Nichols Baseball Field. The Bison won their 27th game of the season.

Senior Brennan Hyde continued his impressive stretch with a 2-3 day with three RBI and two walks as well. Sophomore Dylan Moran also had two hits and a pair of RBI.

The grouping of Hyde, senior Johnny Knox and graduate student Will Kleinhenz recorded six stolen bases in the game, to help the team break the stolen bases single season record of 94 set by the 2023 team. Nichols now sits at 97 stolen bases with four games to play. 

It was the AMCATs who struck first with a two-run home run in the top of the third inning. Nichols answered back in the bottom half of the inning to even the score at 2-2. Knox scored senior Ben Jerome with a single to cut into the lead. A double from sophomore Liam Flynn, scored Knox to pull even for the Bison.

In the bottom of the fourth inning, Nichols plated four more runs to grab a 6-2 lead. Graduate student Jim Marasco scored on a pass ball to break the 2-2 tie. Hyde the singled through the right side, scoring Moran and Knox. Hyde and Klienhenz both stole, and Hyde came around to score on a throwing error by the catcher. Nichols led 6-2 after four innings.

Nichols put the game out of reach with five more runs in the fifth inning, as the Bison grabbed a 11-2 lead. Hyde singled to score Knox, to start the scoring run. Kleinhenz then singled in Hyde for an 8-2 Nichol lead. An error on a failed pick off attempt, led to another run for the Bison. Moran then singled in two more runs to extend the Nichols lead.

Nichols tacked on their 12th run in the eighth inning, to invoke the 10-run rule. Nichols earned their 27th win of the season, to continue to add to the most wins in single season history.

Freshman Mitch Brown (2-0) earned his second win of the season with 5.0 innings of work. Brown struck out five batters and allowed four hits. Freshmen Jaden Mwangi, Ashton Moniz-Whitten, and Johnathon Brzezicki all threw 1.0 inning, to help wrap up the win for the Bison.

Nichols (27-9, 8-5) will wrap up Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) play tomorrow, April 30, when they welcome Western New England University. First pitch is set for 3:30 p.m.
