Eventful seventh-inning push by Mustangs against Cardinals falls by the wayside

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Stevenson baseball (9-24) secured four runs in the final inning against the Catholic University of America Cardinals (26-9) on Wednesday evening, but the final score was 15-5 Cardinals after seven innings.
 
Following first-inning chances from the Cardinals, a second inning home run from junior designated hitter Dalton Reinhart got the Mustangs on the board 4-1.
 
In the seventh inning, a single from senior second baseman Nick Tamberino allowed first-year right fielder Christopher Manco to reach  home. A second homer for the Mustangs by sophomore center fielder Graham Sears with two runners on base secured three more runs. The score was 11-5 in favor of the Cardinals.
 
In the effort, the Cardinals managed five more runs, ending the game early by the bottom of the seventh, 15-5.
 
With his late-game homer, Sears had three RBI with a run and a hit against three left on base. On the mound, five Mustangs appeared with junior Connor Fox taking the loss, allowing four hits and four earned runs, striking out one. Junior Carl Sansbury pitched for 1.1 innings, striking out two on two walks and three hits.
 
The Mustangs transition back into conference play, taking on the Eastern University Eagles on the road for a nine-inning game on Friday, April 26 at 3:30 p.m. in St. David's, Pa.
