Early Lead for Mustangs Fall short against Bullets

OWINGS MILLS, Md. – Stevenson baseball (6-9, 1-2) scored often early in the game before ending short to the Gettysburg College Bullets (7-10) at East Campus on Wednesday afternoon. The final score was 14-10.
 
In the bottom of the first, the Mustangs managed four runs on singles from sophomore outfield Graham Sears, first-year outfield Christopher Manco, junior outfield Dalton Reinhart, and junior infield Brandon Perillo while sophomore outfield Kaige Garrity added a stolen base.
 
The Bullets took the lead in the top of the second with five runs. In the bottom of the second, the Mustangs battled for the lead with two runs on a double from sophomore catcher John Padousis and a double play.
 
By the bottom of the third, first-year infield Jaylon Surell got on base to score on a sacrifice fly,  securing a 7-6 lead for the Mustangs.
 
Despite the efforts, the Mustangs scored their final two runs in the bottom of the sixth.
 
On the afternoon, Garrity added three RBI on a run and a hit, while Perillo had two RBI on a hit and a walk. The team ended with 11 hits, eight RBI, nine walks with eight left on base.
 
Eight Mustangs had time on the mound with senior Kyle Pellegrino striking out three on four hits, five runs, and two walks. Sophomore Matt Gordon and junior Carl Sansbury each struck out two on the afternoon.
 
The Mustangs take on the Widener University Pride in a tentative doubleheader on the road starting at noon on Friday, March 22.
