Mustangs combine for five runs in conference doubleheader against the Spartans

OWINGS MILLS, Md. – Stevenson baseball (8-13, 3-6) completed a doubleheader against the York College Spartans (15-4, 7-2) in conference play, ending both games without a win. The first was an 11-4 and the second was a 5-1 decision, both in favor of the Spartans.
 
GAME 1
The Mustangs managed their first run in the bottom of the sixth, when junior infield Brady Bedway scored from third on a ground out by junior first basemen Jack Gitterman.
 
In the final bottom of the seventh, the Mustangs added three more runs. The first arrived on a Spartans error by the shortstop, allowing sophomore outfield Collin Palmieri to score. First-year catcher A.J. Viccora also returned home on a single from senior infield Ryan Lassiter. Sophomore infield Noah Joly secured the final run for the Mustangs on the second out, ending the game with the final 11-4 decision.
 
The Mustangs picked up four RBI on three hits with five left on base. First-year Jake Treasure struck out one against 12 hits and 11 runs, and first-year Connor Wilkerson struck out three on two walks and a wild pitch.
 
GAME 2
With a lower score compared to the first game, the Mustangs managed a run in the bottom of the seventh when sophomore outfield Kaige Garrity singled to the shortstop, allowing sophomore catcher John Padousis on third to reach home.
 
Garrity picked up an RBI while the team got seven hits and two walks. Both senior pitcher Jason Labrador and sophomore Brendan Phillips each struck out two for a combined five earned runs.
 
The Mustangs next travel to the University of Mary Washington on Wednesday, April 3, taking on the Eagles at 3:30 p.m.
