McMurry school officials did not have to look very far to find the next head coach of the War Hawks program, officially naming Josh Lee to the position Thursday. Lee was a former standout at McMurry and household name in the Texas baseball community.
In the opening game Friday, Concordia-Moorhead split a set with Crown, each using the big inning to secure a win, to the final game in Texas where McMurry won at home, the action was hot all day long.
The Schreiner Mountaineers traveled to Brownwood, Texas and won the first game 12-11, before falling 2-9 to the Yellow Jackets in the second game. Also in Texas, McMurry won easily over Dallas Christian and ETBU won on a walk-off balk in other games in Texas.
No. 1 Trinity (Texas) fell to McMurry, No. 4 UMass-Boston to Southern Maine, and No. 6 Rowan to Penn State-Abington on Tuesday. Only TCNJ escaped with a win among teams in the first ten spots of the Top 25 on the diamond today.
University of the Ozarks took state honors on Wednesday with a win over Hendrix. Elsewhere Howard Payne defeated McMurry and Pomona-Pitzer survived a Bates rally to close the D-III baseball action on Wednesday.
A big series against their cross-town rivals by Matt Thompson of McMurry and a no-hitter by Jhonneris Mendez of Suffolk have earned them the National Hitter and Pitcher of the Week awards.
