Occidental sweeps Austin for 4-0 start

Occidental made it a perfect 4-0 this weekend at Austin, picking up two more wins in Texas on Sunday. Freshman lefty CJ Maruyama picked up the win in the first game. Maruyama went five innings, giving up just two hits and an earned run, in the 5-3 win. In the nightcap, A.J. Libunao and Alec Strain each had RBI doubles during a five-run eighth inning, leading Occidental to a 11-7 come-from-behind win over the Roos.

Ferrum trailed 5-0 after four and a half innings, but rallied to post a 7-6 non-conference win over Eastern Mennonite in its season opener this afternoon at Panther Field. Eddie McGrath went 3-5 with a double, two RBI and a run for the Panthers (1-0). Wes Walker also went 3-5 with a double, and added a run and an RBI.

Methodist improved to 2-0 on the young season with a come-from-behind 5-2 win over Roanoke at Armstrong-Shelley Field. The Monarchs rallied from a 2-1 deficit in the sixth inning to remain perfect all-time (8-0) against the Maroons.

Guilford used four Piedmont errors to pull out a 5-4 comeback win in 10 innings at McBane Field. The Lions' final miscue came on Herc Ingels' hard-hit ground ball to second base, which scored John Macon Smith from third base with two outs in the bottom of the 10th.
