MILWAUKEE – Steve Sanfilippo has been named the head baseball coach at Milwaukee School of Engineering, director of athletics Dan Harris announced today.

Sanfilippo, who spent three seasons as an assistant baseball coach at MSOE from 2006-08, will also serve as event manager as he replaces Troy Doering, who stepped down in December to pursue other career opportunities. Doering was 13-19 in 2013.

"We're excited to be adding Steve to our staff of coaches," Harris said. "He has a genuine interest in MSOE and continuing the progress our baseball program has made under Coach Doering. I am convinced that Coach Sanfilippo will move us to new heights. The selection committee selected him from a large and impressive pool of highly-qualified applicants. His enthusiasm and desire to help our program was paramount in the choice."

Sanfilippo brings a wealth of baseball knowledge, having played and coached at multiple levels, including collegiately at the Division I level. Most recently, he has been at UW-Milwaukee since 2008. There, he has been on staff as an assistant coach, director of baseball operations, as well as in administrative positions within external relations and the athletic director's office.

While working with the Milwaukee baseball program, the Panthers won two conference championships and advanced to the NCAA Tournament in 2010. Additionally, five players were drafted in the MLB First-Year Player Draft.

Sanfilippo has additional coaching experience with Ripken Baseball Camps, Whitefish Bay High School and as a private baseball trainer as owner and operator of Sanfilippo Baseball LLC.

As a player, Sanfilippo played three seasons at Milwaukee after starting his career at Central Michigan. He was the Panthers' starting shortstop all three seasons at UWM, earning Horizon League All-Newcomer Team honors his first season. The team won 74 games in his three seasons and advanced to the 2005 league title game.

He was just as dedicated off the field as he was a member of the National Scholars Honor Society and was named the UWM Strength and Conditioning Athlete of the Year as a senior.
