Whitman packed a season's worth of late-inning drama into the three-state, 11-game, 17-day walkabout that opened its 2014 baseball campaign starting the season 8-3. Monday had it all with a thrilling 14-5 comeback in the first game and an 19-6 offensive explosion to complete the sweep. The Missionaries are averaging 10.3 runs per game.
Brandeis came up just short against six different pitchers in
their season opener as the Judges
fell, 5-3, at Warner, an NAIA team in Florida. The Judges had
seven hits in their opener, paced by senior designated hitter Dan
Gad, who was 2-4 with a double and a run scored.
North Carolina Wesleyan cruised to a 9-1 victory over
Maine-Presque Isle at Bauer Field. Sophomores Chris Rogerson and
Ciro Norzagaray each drove in three runs to help the Bishops secure
their second win of the season. Freshman Spencer Ramsey picked up
the win in his first collegiate start, allowing one run on five
hits and striking out six over 5.2 innings of work.
