A six-run fifth inning highlighted a 10-hit game for Marymount, as it coasted past Hood, 12-2, in the programs' first meeting on Monday afternoon at the Nationals Youth Baseball Academy. Eight different Saints registered hits in the game including two apiece by Ben Berczek and Brandon Orbe. Brandon Savage played a big role in the win, knocking in three RBI for the contest of a two-RBI single in the fifth inning and a sacrifice fly in the seventh. Scott Robison earned the win in relief of starter Sean O'Connell.
Concordia-Moorhead took advantage of four multi-run innings to spoil the season opener for the Houghton Highlanders, 14-4. Cody Rahman was 3-for-3 with three RBI to lead the Cobbers. Kyle Connelly earned the win, allowing five hits in 5.1 innings pitched. He was touched for four runs (two earned).
After managing just one run in their season-opening 7-1 nonconference loss to Augustana Sunday, the Saint Mary's (Minn.) decided to kick its offense up a notch. Or two...or nine. The Cardinals erupted for nine runs—including four in the second inning—en route to a 9-3 nonconference win over Augustana in the teams' rematch in Winter Haven, Fla.
