Heidelberg opened the 2016 season with a split, falling to Manchester, 19-10, then beating Case Western Reserve, 3-2. The games were played on the synthetic surface at the V.A. Memorial Stadium in Chillicothe. Manchester split their games on the day and are 1-1 on the season. Case Western Reserve is now 1-4 on the season.
No. 3 Emory ran its win streak to five games, defeating Huntingdon 6-0. Hans Hansen had another stellar start as he continued his impeccable run to begin the season, going eight shutout innings to improve to 3-0. He allowed eight hits, all singles, and struck out seven in the game. Through his first three starts, spanning 21 innings, he has yet to give up a run and carries an impressive 17:1 strikeout-to-walk ratio. The Emory program record for consecutive scoreless innings is 27 set by Ryan Donegan in 2001.
Escaping a dangerous bases-loaded situation in the ninth inning, No. 14 Linfield snapped a three-game losing streak and set up an opportunity claim its first NWC series of the year with a bounce-back win against Puget Sound at Roy Helser Field. After the Loggers relatively cruised to a 9-5 win in the series opener, the Wildcats opened up a two-run lead in the fourth and held on for a narrow 4-3 victory in Game two.
Ryan Reitmeyer lined a walkoff double to propel Kean past DeSales by the final of 4-3. Down 3-2 in the bottom of the ninth Ryan Kelley started off the inning with a single up the middle. Matt Krupa followed that with a single through the left side and a perfectly placed bunt from Andy Lopez moved both runners into scoring position. Krupa was lifted for pinch-runner Mike Perone, who would become the game-winning run. That setup Reitmeyer who battled through an 0-2 count and found real estate in the gap for the walkoff win.
No. 4 Salisbury picked up its first wins of the season, sweeping Arcadia in a doubleheader at the Salisbury. The Sea Gulls used comeback efforts in both games to win the first one 7-6 and the second 8-5. The fifth inning was key for the Sea Gulls as the runs scored in each game provided the winning margin.

No 10 Frostburg posted a convincing sweep of Farmingdale State, Saturday in the Bobcats first doubleheader of the 2016 season. The Bobcats improved to 5-0 on the season with the two wins. Frostburg shutout the Rams, 7-0, behind another dominating performance from sophomore starter Greg Schneider in the first game. In the second contest, FSU used a 10-run fifth inning for a 13-3 victory.
Senior lefty Blake Glauben pitched a complete game shutout with 11 strikeouts to lead the Rhodes to a 4-0 win over Hendrix in the SCAC opener. Glauben pitched all nine innings, only allowed five hits and only one walk. His 11 strikeouts is a career high. Glauben's first 16 pitches of the game were strikes. Game two would be a different story as Hendrix scored three in the first and six in the third, thanks to four Lynx errors in the inning, to fall behind 9-2.
A pair of pithing gems for Pacific led the Boxers to two wins over 17th-ranked Pacific Lutheran, as Pacific picked up 7-3 and 4-2 victories in Northwest Conference action at Clackamas High School. Pacific's starting pitchers Paul Wolfram and Sam Lawrence combined to pitch 16 innings with only two earned runs allowed as the duo shut down the PLU offense.
Texas-Tyler kept the Mary Hardin-Baylor bats quiet at the Patriots took an ASC doubleheader from Cru. Texas Tyler won game one 6-1 and completed the sweep 10-1 in game two.
No stranger to stessful, high-intensity games, the Concordia-Chicago Cougars started their 2016 season in another stressful, high-intensity game that after four hours of play had the Cougars come out on top of the sixth-ranked Webster Gorloks by a final score of 3-2. Webster lost their second game of the day 2-0 to Buena Vista.
Junior Mitch McNabb tossed 4.1 innings of shutout relief as No. 24 Marietta downed No. 23 Methodist 6-5 in 11 innings. Methodist opened with a 16-1 win in seven innings over Neumann.
