UWW loses twice at home, Oberlin earns home sweep

Oberlin was down to its final strike in game two, but Justin Cruz came through with a game-tying RBI double in the bottom of the ninth before delivering the game-winning hit in the 11th as the Yeomen completed the doubleheader sweep of the visiting Hiram Terriers with a 2-1 win. Oberlin won the lid-lifter 11-4.  It was a tale of two games as the Yeomen scored in every inning of game one, belting out 14 hits en route to relatively easy victory.  However, things were much different in the nightcap as the Terriers pitching combination of Brandon Chesmar and Ryan Fedor had the Yeomen baffled for the first 26 outs of the ball game.

King's (Pa.) used a balanced attack with 11 base hits and four different players driving in runs as the Monarchs picked up an important 5-2 Freedom victory over visiting Delaware Valley at Lipo Field. John Wickiser was the winning pitcher for King's, allowing two earned runs in six innings while striking out two batters.

Oglethorpe picked up a victory against the crosstown rival Emory Eagles, currently ranked fifth in the nation, in the Druid Hills neighborhood of Atlanta, scoring three runs over the first three innings and hanging on for a 5-1 victory. The win served as the Stormy Petrels' second road victory over a top-five Emory team in as many years, after they beat the No. 3 Eagles 7-6 in Druid Hills last season.

The Alfred State bats never got going as they fell to Penn College 5-2 and 2-0 at the Kerr-Pegula Athletic Complex at Houghton. The Pioneers were held to just eight hits by Wildcat pitchers in the doubleheader. In the opener, the Pioneers stranded 11 runners and was unable to hold on to an early lead. In the nightcap, the combination of Trevor Dolin, Aaron Palmer, Jed Blankenhorn, and Andrew Gilbert held the Pioneer bats to just three hits.

No. 7 Shenandoah earned a split of its ODAC season series versus Bridgewater with an 11-9 victory. For the second straight time, Shenandoah had to rally for the win. The Hornets found themselves down 6-0 after two innings but erased the deficit with nine runs over the third and fourth innings

Mount Union claimed its first Ohio Athletic Conference win in salvaging a split at John Carroll in University Heights. The Purple Raiders won game two 10-9 after it fell in the opener 6-1.

A late Rhode Island rally fell just short as intra-city rival Johnson & Wales was able to score a run in the bottom of the ninth inning to escape with a 5-4 victory. Winners of their last eight contests, the Wildcats are off to their best start through 20 games with a 16-4 record.

Keystone scored four runs in both the third and fourth innings to overcome an early three-run deficit and the Giants’ bullpen allowed just one hit and no runs in the final four innings to lift Keystone to an 11-4 victory over Drew at Christy Mathewson Field. Chris Triano went 4-4 with two RBIs and three runs scored, Billy Nelson and Alex Herceg drove in three runs each, while Louis Reyes and Nate Ross collected three hits apiece for the Giants.

St. John Fisher Cardinals have won nine consecutive with four of them coming at home.

St. John Fisher sed a combination of offense and pitching to defeat Brockport, 18-0 at Dugan Yard. The Cardinal offense was paced by Cody Wiktorski who finished the day going 5-for-5 with two triples, two doubles, a single, a walk, six runs scored and three RBI.

St. Joseph's (L.I.) dropped the first game of its Skyline Conference doubleheader to rivals Farmingdale State by the score of 7-0 before winning the night cap 5-1 at FSC Baseball Stadium. The Golden Eagles remain at .500 in conference play (4-4) while the Rams lose for the first time in their Skyline schedule.

Penn State Behrend took down D'Youville 6-2 and 1-0 in a pair of AMCC games. Scott Sada went 5-for-7 and was hit by a pitch on the day to lead the Lions at the plate. He went 3-for-3 in game one with an RBI, a run scored and stole two bases. John Hlavinka and David Boehme each had a hit, run scored and RBI in the contest.

Nick Hart's sacrifice fly broke a 3-3 tie in the bottom of the fifth inning and Cortland never trailed again as the nationally third-ranked Red Dragons edged Rochester, 7-5, in a non-league contest.

Concordia Chicago visited the No. 2 UW-Whitewater Warhawks and swept the home team, winning 8-5 in the first game, and surviving a rally in the bottom of the ninth in the nightcap by a 6-5 score.

Muhlenberg came from behind to tie in the eighth and ninth innings against one of the best pitchers in the Centennial Conference, then scored four runs in the 10th for a 6-2 win at Haverford.

Suffolk scored in six innings, including the first two, as the Rams rolled to a 15-3 win over Eastern Connecticut State at Eastern Stadium. Seth Coiley (3-for-3, 2R, 3RBI), Jake Frasca (3-for-5, 2R, 3RBI), Brady Chant (3-for-5, 3R, 1RBI) and Jon Lapolla (3-for-6, 1R, 2RBI) each had a trio of hits for the Rams.

No. 16 Christopher Newport picked up a key win in Capital Athletic Conference action, taking down 11th-ranked Salisbury on the road, 10-5. The Captains avenged a home loss to the Sea Gulls behind timely hitting and another strong start by Michael Thomas.

Franklin scored two runs with two outs to break an eighth-inning tie during a 5-3 road victory over Rose-Hulman in HCAC play. Franklin broke the 3-3 tie after a throwing error on an slow ground ball from Drew Kammerer. The play allowed Jackson Freed and Jason Simpkins to score. Simpkins had a key two-out double earlier in the inning to put both runners in scoring position.

Sam Dexter broke a 7-7 tie with a bases loaded triple in the top of the 11th inning to give the 18th-ranked Southern Maine Huskies a 10-7 victory over the Colby Mules at Coombs Field. The win extended the Huskies' winning streak to eight games as they rallied from 6-3 and 7-5 deficits with two runs in the eighth and two in the ninth to force extra innings.
