LaGrange opened its 2017 season with a 10-3 win over visiting Sewanee at Cleaveland Field in Williamson Stadium on Saturday. The Panthers used a six-run first inning to propel them to the win hitting seven of their 12 safeties on the day. La Grange finished with 12 hits in the game. Tavin Thompson had three hits, while Chad Pigg and James Poropatic had two each.
No. 21 Texas Lutheran bounced back from a season-opening home loss Friday night against Concordia (Tex) by posting 8-0 and 16-3 wins over the Tornados at Tornado Field. Texas Lutheran started the day with a three-hit shutout gem from junior right-hander Cade Killingsworth. In the seven-inning contest, Killingsworth struck out six, walked one and allowed one extra-base hit (a double). He faced just two batters over the minimum. In the nightcap, Colby Schrade drove in five and went 3-for-6 with two runs scored as the Bulldog's run-rulled the Tornados.
Greensboro swept a doubleheader Saturday against the Scots of Covenant to start the seaons 3-0 for the first time since 2008. The Pride won game one, 12-8, before completing the three-game sweep with a 5-0 victory in game two. Brandon Soden is off to a hot start to the season batting .462 and slugging .769 in 2017.
Sul Ross and University of Dallas began the 2017 run with a 1-1 split. Following a 1-0 setback in game one, Sul Ross State broke out the bats and defeated the Crusaders, 8-4 in the second half of the doubleheader. Saturday's first contest saw low production hitting by both teams as the Lobos notched a hit while Dallas posted two, one a solo homer by the Crusaders' Zach San Roman. University of Dallas coughed up five errors in game two as the Lobos delivered a 12-hit payload in the equalizer.

Maryville (Tenn.) opened the 2017 campaign with a 10-6 victory over Johnson University on Maryville's Scotland Yard on Saturday evening. Six Fighting Scots pitchers combined to scatter seven hits while the Scots' offense tallied seven runs driven in on eleven hits.
Methodist swept a doubleheader and tallied 26 total runs as it opened the season against Lynchburg at Armstrong-Shelley Field. Pete Wildeboer led all hitters with five hits on the day. Ethan Carmack and Davis Cass led all hitters with three RBI in the doubleheader.
Millsaps open up their season by going 2-1 in a weekend series at Huntingdon. Millsaps opened up the weekend on Friday with a demanding 8-0 victory over Huntingdon. On Saturday Huntigdon even the serieswith a 6-4 win only to fall 12-3 in the nightcap. James Calvert is off to a hot start for the Huntingdon Hawks with a 5-for-9 weekend. Wes Lassere was 3-for-7 in the Major's two wins.
Pomona-Pitzer split their doubleheader with Puget Sound as they won game one 7-4 and lost game two 9-6 at Alumni Field. Sagehen freshman Jeremy Jess got the ball in game one as he notched his first collegiate win of his career. The freshman went five complete innings gave up eight hits, two runs and struck out two hitters. Tyler Yoshihara, another freshman, closed out the game for his first save of the year. Pitching failed Pomona-Pitzer in game two as Ryan Darrow homered as part of a six run third inning for the Loggers. Puget Sound would earned its first win of the season with the 9-6 victory over Pomona-Pitzer.
