Ithaca split a road doubleheader at St. Joseph's College-Long Island on Sunday at Greg Alfano Stadium. Ithaca prevailed in game one, 4-3, but dropped the second contest by a 4-1 outcome. Junior Jake Binder tossed a complete game for his first win of the season. Binder surrendered seven hits and struck out four batters over seven innings of work. PJ Martino earned the game two win and Anthony Papa the save as the Golden Eagles combined on a four-hitter to split the two game set.

New Jersey City scored five runs in the second inning and defeated Pitt-Greensburg, 6-2, in the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational at the Lake Myrtle Sports Complex Main Field. After twice having its season opener delayed, the Gothic Knights produced 11 hits and played error-free baseball. Junior third baseman Jesse Kraft, a transfer from Brookdale Community College, notched a pair of doubles in his first game for his new team, batting 2-for-4 and sophomore designated hitter Lenin Gomez and junior shortstop Nick LoGatto each batted 3-for-4. Sophomore right fielder Juan Pena, a transfer from Rider, had two RBIs in a 1-for-4 showing. Junior right-handed pitcher Jose Ortiz was the winner, striking out eight batters in 6.1 innings, while allowing just two runs and seven hits.
Springfield beat Western New England in the first ever regular season game played on Archie Allen Field. Competing on the one-of-a-kind intercollegiate and adaptive Archie Allen Field, which was dedicated in October thanks to the partnership between Springfield and the Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation, Springfield improved to 1-0 as it bested the Golden Bears for the first time since 2003. Highlighting the Pride's offensive efforts was junior infielder Brandon Russo, who went 2-for-3 on the day including a clutch three-run double to go with a single and a stolen base. senior outfielder Kyle Allen also had a solid day at the dish with a RBI and a run as he drove in the first run ever on Archie Allen Field.
Earlham improved to 8-0 on the season with its second doubleheader sweep over rival Wilmington in as many days, posting 5-2 and 2-1 victories over Wilmington at Sadler Stadium. Unlike Saturday's slugfest-driven victories, Sunday's wins for Earlham came on the back of solid pitching performances and clutch hitting, including a walk-off triumph for the Maroon and White in Sunday's second game.
Endicott turned in a 3-2 opening day victory over Stevens in non-conference action at North Field. Gulls' sophomore reliever Alexander Mandrus earned the win on 3 1/3 innings pitched, three hits, no runs, two walks, and a pair of strikeouts. Meanwhile, Will Bryant notched the save via 1 2/3 shutout frames, one hit, zero free passes, and a punchout. Stevens' senior starter Quinn DiPasquale was dealt the hard-luck loss on eight innings, four hits, three runs (one earned), two walks, and two strikeouts.
Freshman pitcher Ryan Loutos struck out 13 batters in route to picking up his first collegiate victory as Washington University closed out a perfect week with an 8-3 victory over Buena Vista. The Bears improved to 4-3 on the season with its fourth straight win of the week including a three game series sweep over the Beavers who fell to 0-3 on the year. Sophomore John Brinkman provided a bases clearing double off the wall in the fifth and pitched 2.2 innings of scoreless ball in relief to help WashU close out the win.
Another day, another well-pitched game and another shutout win for the Montclair State. Freshman lefthande Nick Cocchia went the first six innings and four relievers closed out the game as the Red Hawks blanked Penn State-Abington, 5-0 in the RussMatt Invitational. Sophomore Joe Norton had three hits and an RBI for Montclair, which improved to 5-2 on the year with their third straight victory. Cocchia picked up his first collegiate victory as he allowed three hits in his second career start. The lefty struck out six and walked three.

Behind the strength of its pitching staff, William Paterson swept a doubleheader against visiting Keene State, 5-1 and 11-5, at Jeff Albies Field. Junior Corey Martinez allowed just one earned run over 5.1 innings, sophomore lefty Zach Polzer spun 3.2 shutout frames in relief and the Pioneer offense provided some timely hitting as WP overcame Keene State, 5-1, in game one of the twin bill. A five-run sixth inning in the night cap blew the game open to allow the Pioneers to finish off the sweep, 11-5.
Kean edged Scranton by the final of 2-1. The win culminates the Cougars pre-spring break schedule as Kean will enjoy a short break before heading to Florida later this week. Junior Tyler Hopman picked up his second win of the year tossing eight innings allowing just one run while scattering eight He worked out of jams a few times, including the eighth inning as Scranton put runners on second and third with two outs. Rookie Jean Sapini earned his second save of the season facing five batters in the ninth with no runs and no hits. For Kean, Frank LoGiudice had two hits while Tommy Trotter and Kevin Nolan each had two for Scranton.

Alvernia swept the first day of spring break baseball action with wins against Elms in Fort Myers, Florida. The Golden Wolves took an early 4-0 lead in game one of the doubleheader and never looked back on their way to 10-2 victory. In the second game of the day, a grand slam by Dillon Dunne powered the Golden Wolves to a 7-2 win.
Senior Michael Barnabei picked up his first career save as Marietta defeated Adrian, 5-3, on the campus of Berry. Prior to today, Barnabei had pitched just 2.0 innings in his career at Marietta. This afternoon he tossed 4.0 shutout innings for the save. The lefty scattered three hits, walked two and struck out three Bulldog batters. Freshman Dalton Wiggins made his collegiate debut and picked the win. Wiggins worked the first 5.0 innings and allowed three runs, two earned, on four hits. He walked three and struck out four.
Centre scored three in the top of the ninth, rallying past Sewanee for an 8-7 victory to complete a three-game series sweep at Montgomery Field. Austin Schacht closed the door in the bottom of the frame, earning his third save by retiring Sewanee in order. He was the last in a line of solid Centre relief pitchers, as Sam Wilson, Jordan Gunter, Chris Esselman and Schacht combined to throw the final 3.1 innings, surrendering just two hits and three total baserunners. Will Kirk was a stellar 4-for-5 from the leadoff spot, scoring twice while stealing two bases.
Sam Swenson and AJ Valencia each turned in 3 for 5 days at the plate while Alex Jondal struck out seven as George Fox completed the sweep of Pacific with an 8-4 victory. Jondal continued his dominant start to the year. The senior improved to 3-0 and leads the Bruin starters with a 1.74 earned run average. The top of the lineup led the way on Sunday as Valencia drove in two while Jerred Seamons and Swenson each recorded an RBI.

Junior Nicholas Browne hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the ninth as Babson rallied to defeat Baldwin Wallace, 6-5, in non-conference action at the Snowbird Classic. Sophomore Sean Harrington went 2-for-4 with a double, a triple and two runs scored for the Beavers, who got hits from seven different players. Senior Matt Cuneo picked up his first win of the year, while classmate John Floegel allowed three runs on seven hits to go along with three strikeouts in 5.2 innings in his first start of the spring.
Penn State Behrend opened their spring training trip looking for their first win of the season but fell to the defending Landmark champion Elizabethtown Blue Jays 5-3. The Lions' ninth inning rally wasn't enough to overcome the Blue Jays eighth inning charge of their own.
Hood used a 13-hit performance on its way to a 12-3 victory over the Gettysburg Bullets. The Blazer's 7-0 start continues Hoods' best start in school history. Nate Luscombe (2-0) turned in six innings of work on the mound, allowing eight hits, three earned runs, striking out six. Ryan Atkinson, Jake Howell, and Ryan D'Allesandro each pitched an inning apiece to combine for scoreless, one-hit relief in the final three innings.
New York University won both ends of a doubleheader against SUNY Canton at MCU Park in Brooklyn. The Violets took game one 8-2 and followed it up with a 9-0 victory in game two to complete the sweep. NYU used a seven-run seventh inning in the opener to turn a 2-1 deficit into a comfortable, 8-2 lead it was able to hold on to. In game two, the Violets scored four runs in the first inning and never looked back to complete the two-day, three-game series sweep of SUNY Canton.
Eureka entered the 2018 win column in a 5-4 non-conference victory over Elmhurst at Lenz Field in Jacksonville, Ill., the first collegiate victory for new head coach Jerry Rashid. The Red Devils dropped Sunday's opener, a 10-4 setback versus Lawrence. Sunday's win over the Blue Jays was the first at the NCAA level for Rashid, who won more than 800 games as the winningest coach in the history of high school baseball in central Illinois. The win over Elmhurst also marked Eureka's fourth win over a CCIW opponent since the turn of the century and its first since beating Millikin 7-6 on March 15, 2013.
Benedictine continued a season opening stint in the St. Louis area by rallying to the first win of the year. The Eagles defeated North Park 3-2. Benedictine scored all their runs of one swing of the bat. Jimmy McLaughlin turned the tide of the game, drilling the first pitch of his at bat over the wall in right for a go-ahead three-run homer.
Drew saw its five-game winning streak come to an end with a 6-5 loss to La Roche in the first game of a doubleheader. The Rangers rebounded in game two, however, notching a 9-6 victory over the Redhawks at the Lanwood Sports Complex.
Oglethorpe got their 3-game series with Kalamazoo off to a decent start, splitting a doubleheader with the visiting Hornets. It also meant that the Stormy Petrels have split the first four games in their stretch of five games in three days over the weekend. The Petrels rode outstanding pitching to a 6-1 victory in game two after an 8-6 seesaw affair went Kalamazoo's way in game one. The Petrels hit well in both games, collecting 12 hits in each, but Oglethorpe pitching issued 15 free passes (14 walks, one hit batsman) and gave up nine hits in the first game.
