Benedictine gets wins on Monday - D3baseball

UMass-Boston jumped out to an early 9-0 lead through the first three innings as they cruised to their eighth straight win with an 13-4 victory over regionally-ranked Endicott College Monday evening at Monan Park.

After winning games in 11 innings, 12 innings and 14 innings to get to the verge of a playoff spot, Muhlenberg needed just one inning to take the final step. The Mules scored seven runs in the bottom of the fifth inning and went on to defeat Dickinson, 10-1, in their regular-season finale. Muhlenberg finished in a tie for fourth place in the Centennial Conference with Swarthmore and earned the fourth and final playoff spot because of a season sweep of the Garnet. The Mules (20-17, 10-8), who are in the playoffs for the second straight year and the sixth time overall, will travel to top-seeded Johns Hopkins for a first-round playoff game on Thursday. The remainder of the double-elimination tournament, which also includes Haverford and Franklin & Marshall, will take place at Johns Hopkins on Saturday and Sunday. Muhlenberg honored its seven seniors prior to the game on its twice-delayed Senior Day. The win was the 73rd for the class, putting them into a tie for second place among the program's all-time winningest classes. Only the seniors who graduated in 2003 won more games as Mules (75). A sophomore, Truman Devitt, stole the show against the Red Devils (22-15, 9-9), who needed a win and a Swarthmore loss to clinch their first playoff berth since 2004. Devitt pitched seven sparkling innings, allowing no runs on four hits. Only six Dickinson batters reached base against him, and none advanced past second.

Benedictine pulled away from Edgewood to sweep a conference doubleheader on the road. The Eagles won 6-1 and 13-1 in eight innings. Ryan Litavecz made the start, working seven innings and allowing just one run on four hits while striking out five. The start marked the first of the season for Litavecz, who had worked 16 times in relief. Simon Herold walked two and struck out seven in working four innings during his first collegiate start. Drake Berman earned the win by logging three innings of relief, striking out three. Christian Hubbard worked the eighth to complete the win.

No. 18 ranked UW-Whitewater recovered from a tightly-contested opening game loss Monday for a 9-4 victory in the second game of a WIAC doubleheader at UW-La Crosse. The Warhawks (25-8 overall, 17-3 WIAC) were topped 2-1 in the first game of the day before bouncing back with a six-run first inning on their way to earning a split of the twin bill and of the four-game series against the regionally ranked Eagles. Junior right fielder Alex Doud totaled four of UW-Whitewater's 17 hits in the nightcap, adding one run scored and one run batted in. Sophomore designated hitter Connor Moroder smashed a three-run homer as part of the big first inning for a game-high three RBI, and junior centerfielder Noah Jensen collected three hits, one run scored and one RBI.

Wartburg (11-23 overall, 8-13 A-R-C) completed the series sweep over Simpson (12-21, 4-17) Monday as it claimed both games of the twinbill 6-5 and 4-2. This also marked the 15th straight win over the Storm in the all-time series, which dates back to the 2015 season. Freshman Aaron Eybers earned the save in both games.

Southern Vermont completed its last regular season Monday with a New England Collegiate Conference doubleheader against Eastern Nazarene at the New England Baseball Complex—first edging the Lions 4-3 before falling 5-1 to split the twin bill . SVC finishes the regular season at 14-16-1 with an 8-8 mark in league play. The Mountaineers captured the No. 5 seed in the Conference's postseason tournament and will head to ENC on Tuesday for a first-round play-in game against the fourth-seeded Lions; first pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m. Southern Vermont is going back to the playoffs for the first time since 2016.

Keystone scored 19 runs on 19 hits on Monday afternoon to cruise to a 19-0 CSAC win against Valley Forge. With the win, the Giants are now 18-12 (11-1 CSAC) and will host Immaculata tomorrow at 3:30 p.m. The Patriots fall to 6-22 (1-11 CSAC). Senior Dakota McFadden finished 5-for-7 with four RBI and five runs scored, tying the single game program record for runs, hits, and doubles. McFadden ripped three doubles and a two-run blast in the seventh. Senior Johann Paniagua finished the day 2-for-6 with five RBI and two runs scored. Senior Ronald Medina went 2-for-5 with three RBI and two runs scored, launching a solo shot in the seventh. Junior Joe Fichera went 3-for-6 with two RBI and two runs at the leadoff spot while senior Chris Panzarella went 2-for-5 with two RBI and three runs.

Senior Edward Lehr went 4-for-4 with a home run and four RBI to help No. 7 Babson defeat visiting Western New England University, 16-4, in non-conference baseball action on Monday afternoon at Govoni Field. With its 12th win in the last 13 games, Babson improves to 29-5 overall, while Western New England dips to 22-12 overall. Senior Nicholas Browne went 2-for-4 with a double and four RBI, junior Jake Oliger doubled as part of a three-hit day and drove in two runs, and classmate Matthew Valente went 2-for-3 with a double, two walks two RBI and three runs scored for the Beavers. Junior Alex DiMartino also doubled and drove in two runs, while senior Connor Gill singled and scored twice in the win.

Matt Dobeck drew five walks, including the game-winning bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the ninth inning to lead King's College to a 6-5 victory over Eastern at Lipo Field in the regular season finale. The five walks are one shy of the Division III record in a game and his fifth capped off a ninth inning rally where the Monarchs scored twice for their second win of the year when trailing after seven. The Eastern pitchers didn't want to give Dobeck anything to hit after the sophomore had six hits in two games on Saturday as the team's leadoff hitter. The win also enables the Monarchs to reach the .500 mark for the first time this season after losing their first four games. KC finishes the regular season with a 17-17 record while going 12-9 in Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom games with five series victories. The only two series the Monarchs did not win this year were against top-seeded Misericordia and second-seeded Manhattanville.
