Arlington Baptist Saturday. The Crusaders won the first
game 4-1 after a stellar outing on the mound from Conrad
Voss and timely hitting. Dallas will then took the second
game 8-4 in a back-and-forth game.

Sam Kippen hit a two-run double and Joe Tardif and Mat Bruno added RBI singles in a four-run eighth inning as nationally seventh-ranked Cortland rallied to defeat 13th-ranked Salisbury University, 10-9. The teams will meet again in Salisbury Sunday at noon. Cortland finished with a 14-12 advantage in hits, although Salisbury walked 10 times compared to four by the Red Dragons. Brad Haas, Christian Murphy, Stephen Rice and Cameron Hyder each finished with two hits

Pacific started conference play with a 2-0 win in game one and an 8-1 win in the nightcap over Lewis & Clark at Chuck Bafaro Stadium. The Boxer offense pounded out nine hits in the win but it was a masterful performance by junior pitcher Derek Eubanks that will made the headlines. The nightcap saw Pacific stay hot at the plate and in control on the mound, pounding out 13 hits and four pitchers limit the Pioneers to four hits.

Misericordia picked up its first win of the season, 1-0, at #11 Kean. Ian McCole threw a complete game three-hitter while striking out seven on just three hits and moved into a tie for second place in school history with his 20th career win. Billy Kerwein was 1-3 with a RBI and Sean Lyons went 1-4 with a run scored. Lyons opened the fifth inning with a single through the left side and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Brady Madden. Kerwein followed with a single to center field to plate the game's only run. After stranding a runner at second base in the first inning, McCole didn't allow a Kean runner to reach second the rest of the way.

No. 4 Birmingham-Southern picked up an 11-5 win over North Park in game two of the series. After allowing three runs in the top of the first, the Panthers put together a two-run bottom first and a three-run second inning to take the lead. BSC added to its lead by scoring another six runs over the remaining seven innings. Junior third baseman Brian Williams and junior first baseman Drew Love co-led the Panthers offensively, each having three RBI in the game. Williams was 3-of-5 from the plate with a two-run home run and a walk. Love was 2-of-5 from the dish with a run scored.

Trine began its 2020 campaign with a split in a pair of nine-inning games against Hanover and Centre at Gary Wright Field in Danville, Ky. The Thunder fell to Hanover, 9-3, to start the day, but came away with a 9-3 win against Centre. Trine posted eight hits in the game with one multi-hit performance in A.J. Mitchell who went two-of-four and also scored a run. Trine had 12 hits against Centre with Mitchell going three-of-four in addition to scoring a run.

The Pfeiffer Falcons scored two runs in the fifth inning to break a 1-1 tie on their way to a 6-3 win over 15th-ranked Adrian on a sunny but cool Saturday afternoon at Joe Ferebee Field. Pfeiffer's win was the second over Adrian after a 4-3 win on Friday. Pfeiffer freshman catcher Jake Brown finished 2-for-4 on the afternoon while driving in two runs.

John Jay used a strong fourth and sixth innings to earn a come-from-behind 17-9 win over FDU Florham at Diamond Nation in Flemington, NJ. This is John Jay's first opening day victory since 2017 and most runs scored in the season opener in program history. Junior Philip Bellomo had a career day as he finished an impressive 5-for-6 with a double, three RBI's, and three runs scored. In his Bloodhound debut, junior Walfi Regalado went 3-for-5 with a triple, four RBI's, and a run scored. Also in his John Jay debut, junior Mike Mescia recorded two doubles, a game-high five RBI's, and a pair of runs scored. In his collegiate debut, freshman Michael Manzoeillo picked up two hits, including a double, two runs, and an RBI. Senior Danny Wynne had a pair of hits and three runs and senior Joe Desilvio added two RBI's.

Bret Leiferman's one-out single in the first inning of the second game of Saturday's doubleheader was historic as he broke the program's all-time hits record and No 23 Concordia Texas completed a three-game sweep of Belhaven to open conference play. Leiferman, a senior out of Round Rock, Texas, entered the day two hits away from tying the record, which had been set by Scott Bunting (2002-05). In the first game, the Tornados used a four-run outburst in the second inning and never looked back, defeating the Blazers 8-1. Leiferman went 2-for-3 in the game, pulling even with Bunting for the record. In the second game of the afternoon, Leiferman put himself in sole possession of the school's career hits record after a one-out single in the first inning. He finished the game with a 3-for-5 performance, scoring twice and drove in the game-tying run in the seventh as CTX came from behind to defeat BU 6-4 to complete the series sweep.

The highly-anticipated 2020 season for No. 5 Heidelberg
began with a neutral-site doubleheader split. HU fell to
Anderson 4-3 in the opener, then rebounded for a 4-2 win
over SUNY Oswego in the second game.  The games were
played at Baldwin Wallace University.

La Verne took the lead in the sixth, rallied in the seventh, and scored a huge 9-5 win over the defending NCAA Champions and current No. 1 Chapman Panthers. Chapman won the series with a 4-2 win on Friday and a 8-6 extra innings win in the first game of the day.

Wade Lopiccolo led an offensive barrage for Transylvania, which picked up its first win of the 2020 season, defeating the No. 18 Coe Kohawks 9-6 at Stauffer Field on the campus of Rhodes College. After pushing the number-two team in the nation to the brink the previous day in their season opener before falling in 10 innings, the Pioneers swarmed their second nationally-ranked opponent in as many days, erupting for 15 hits on the afternoon to move to 1-1 on the season. Lopiccolo went 4 for 5 from the plate with two runs batted in, helping the Pioneers construct a go-ahead 4-3 lead in the top of the second that they would build upon for the rest of the afternoon. The four hits represented a new career single-game high for Lopiccolo.

Keeping the opposing lineup off balance all afternoon long, Charlie Klemm dazzled for six no-hit innings while the offense piled on 20 hits to lead North Central College to a 16-1 onslaught of Wilmington inside Itchy Jones Stadium. It was a pitcher's duel early, as Klemm and Wilmington starter Lance Fleischman posted zeroes over the first four innings. The Cardinal offense eventually came alive in the top of the fifth, scoring nine runs after sending 12 batters to the plate in the inning to bust the game wide open.

UW-Stout opened the 2020 season with a pair of wins on the Southern Illinois University campus, blanking Wilmington, 5-0, in the opener and powering their way past Blackburn College, 11-4, in the second of two nine-inning games. Cody Urban recorded the shutout win and James Palmer gave up one run to get the win over Blackburn. Shortstop Charlie Szykowny was a combined 5 for 9 on the day.

King's College outscored Clarks Summit 37-1 in a season-opening sweep of Defenders from the Berwick Turf Field in Berwick. King's won the opening game of the doubleheader 21-1 before taking the nightcap 16-0. The Monarch offense was patience at the plate in the first game drawing 13 walks including three by leadoff hitter Matt Dobeck. Jacob Lupas and Kyle Friebolin combined to shut down the CSU offense in the second game while the offense scored 14 runs in innings two-through-four.

No. 8-ranked Washington University opened the 2020 season with a doubleheader sweep at Hendrix in Conway, Ark. WashU had 17 hits in the 10-0 victory in the opener, and then recorded nine hits in a 7-2 victory in game two. In 2019, the Bears led the division in ERA and the pitching staff did not allow an earned run on the day to open the season with a 0.00 ERA.

Purchase opened the 2020 season against the City College of New York. Timely hitting helped the Panthers earn the 2-1 win in the opening game of the non-conference doubleheader. CCNY took game two by a score of 4-3. Sean Riera hit a walk-off single in the bottom of the ninth to give the Beavers the victory over Purchase (1-1) in the second game of a season-opening doubleheader.

Capital opened the 2020 campaign with a win over Bates after defeating the Bobcats, 12-4. Freshman Tucker Craft earned the win in his first collegiate start on the hill and was backed by a potent offensive display. In his first collegiate start, Tucker Craft tossed a gem to begin his Crusader career. He finished the day having thrown 5.0 innings and allowed just four hits and two runs. Capital scored 12 runs on 14 hits and had help from six Bates errors. Seven of Capital's 12 runs were earned.

George Fox opened its 2020 Northwest Conference slate on
Saturday with a 15-1, 9-0 doubleheader sweep of Pacific
Lutheran.

Arcadia swept its double-header at Marymount University. Jeremey Sabathne and Nick Fossile combined for nine scoreless innings and earned both the victories for the Knights. Justin Massielo had a huge afternoon at the plate with five hits, three RBI and a home run. Zachary Sekelick also put together a stellar performance with four hits, three RBI and a home run.

Elmira finished its spring break trip on a high note, as the Soaring Eagles downed Castleton by a 10-1 final score in their final game at the 2020 RussMatt Central Florida Invitational. The Soaring Eagles (2-4) received another outstanding performance on the mound against the Spartans (0-1), this time from junior right-hander Taber Carter. Carter, who took the loss in the season-opening game against Brandeis, shook off that performance and turned in the best outing of his collegiate career with 8.0 shutout innings. The Hannibal, New York, native walked the first batter he faced but recovered to strike out a career-high eight.

UMass-Sartmouth taxed the Emerson bullpen for nine runs in the top of the eighth inning to power the Corsairs to a 12-1 victory over the Lions this afternoon in the NCAA Division III opener for both clubs at St. John's Prep. The top of the UMass Dartmouth (1-0) order accounted for six of the visitors' 11 hits on the afternoon, paced by JR DiSarcina's 2-for-5 showing at the dish with a grand slam.  Nate Tellier and Mike Knell each registered two hits and two RBI, while Mitch Baker posted four RBI, including a three-run homer in the ninth.  Robbie Carrillo was impressive in his first start of the campaign, scattering three hits and recording four strikeouts in four innings of work.  Tucker Hetherman collected the victory in relief for UMass Dartmouth, allowing an earned run on four hits and registering three punchouts in four innings.  Tellier didn't surrender a hit during the scoreless ninth inning. 

After back-to-back tough losses against a good team, Occidental finished off its weekend series with a win over Whitworth at Anderson Field. The Tigers got a bad break on a call on Friday, fell in a close one 4-1 in the first game on Saturday and then finally beat the Pirates 11-2 in the afternoon contest. Antonio Andrade went 4 for 5 at the plate with a pair of home runs and doubles as the Tigers opened up a big lead in the series finale.

Emory's offense was in full display Saturday, combining for 23 runs to sweep a doubleheader over visiting DePauw. Emory belted out 14 hits en route to 11 runs in the opener of the twin bill, winning by an 11-1 margin. In the second game, the Eagles erased a 7-1 deficit with a seven-run fourth inning and later rallied from being down 9-8 to complete the Saturday sweep, 12-9. Junior Caleb Shulman drove in a team-high six runs across the two games, finishing the afternoon 4-for-8 at the dish. Senior Richard Brereton went 6-for-10, collecting four RBI and three runs scored. Junior Michael Edelman added.

Brandeis continued its torrid start today, as the Judges wrapped up their 2020 February break trip to Florida with an 11-5 victory over Augustana (Ill.). With the win, the Judges improve to 5-0 for their best start since the 2002 season. It also marks the first time in program history that Brandeis has scored 10 or more runs in five straight games.

Splitting the doubleheader and earning their first win of the year, East Texas Baptist took game one, 9-3, in explosive fashion but fell in game two, 8-4. It took a nine run outburst in the sixth inning for the Tigers to earn the 9-3 victory over HPU in Game 1. Ryan Kasper recorded two hits while he, Ford Spigener, and Jake Miller (hit) each had two RBI. Alan Underwood received his first win of the season lasting six innings allowing one run on three hits while striking out four batters. Alek Arellano would pitch the final inning with two runs on one hit allowed while striking out one. The Yellow Jackets would return the favor in Game 2 as they would take an 8-4 win to claim the series.

Piedmont claimed its first conference series of the season
and fifth win in a row on Saturday with a 13-6 win over
Brevard. The Piedmont offense has come alive in the last
two contests scoring 11+ in the last two games.

Senior Hunter Campbell threw seven shutout innings and allowed only three hits and struck out five to lead University of Lynchburg's baseball team past Manhattanville Saturday, 5-3, at Methodist University's Armstrong Invitational. The Hornets made it a perfect day at the ballpark by beating Penn State-Abington, 4-1, in the nightcap.

Alex Gonzalez played the role of hero for a second straight day as his walk-off two-run homer in the bottom of the ninth gave Covenant a 6-5 win over Maryville in Saturday's first game before the Scots completed a series sweep with a 14-4 win in game two. The three-game sweep for Covenant (5-1, 3-0 USA South) is the first such sweep over Maryville in program history. The Scots have won five straight games against Maryville (5-4, 0-3 USA South) going back to last season.

Texas-Dallas wrapped up a three-game weekend sweep of Hardin-Simmons with a pair of low-scoring affairs in American Southwest Conference play. The Comets (now 6-3, 3-0 ASC) opened Saturday's twin bill with a 3-2 extra-inning victory before closing the sweep with a 4-3 come-from-behind win in the finale. UTD collected a 9-4 win over the Cowboys (now 0-9, 0-3 ASC) on Friday to open the series.

Ferrum made it two straight at Panther field Saturday night with a non-conference win over the College at Brockport, 5-2. "Will Davis gave us a quality start today and Cory Peel and Ty Lam did a really nice job out of the bullpen. We did just enough offensively to win the game. I'm really proud of our guys for continuing to battle and look forward to getting after it tomorrow!", said head coach Ryan Brittle.
