No. 21 Shenandoah was dominant in sweeping a non-league baseball doubleheader from Mary Washington Wednesday afternoon. Shenandoah (3-1) was a 7-0 victor in the opener before completing the day with a 16-2 win over the Eagles (0-2) in the nightcap. In the opener, SU scored three runs in the third, one in the fourth and three more in the seventh, but it was more than enough for sophomore Michael Prosperi (1-0). Prosperi, who missed the entire 2019 season with Hodgkin's Lymphoma, tossed a complete game four-hitter in his first start of the 2021 campaign. Prosperi scattered four hits, walked two and struck out one in recording his second career shutout. The sophomore faced the minimum in the fourth, sixth, and seventh innings. Crooked numbers in the second, third, sixth, and seventh added up to a 16-2 victory for the Hornets in game two.

Saint John's (Minn.) offense came alive at the right time as the Johnnies swept Bethany Lutheran with a pair of 2-1, 8-inning wins on Wednesday, March 10, at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis. The early-morning start (7 a.m.) may have aided the strong pitching performances. The two teams combined for 17 hits in 31 innings of play, a .159 average (17-for-107), and 40 strikeouts. The two teams combined to go 2-for-39 (.051) with runners on base and 2-for-23 (.087) with runners in scoring position.

Wittenberg traveled north to begin their 2021 campaign, taking down the NCAA Division I Akron University Zips, 5-1. It had been since the spring trip of 1987 to Jacksonville, FL that these two programs had last met. Wittenberg was able to overtake the Zips, in what was their second game of the season, 9-4. This was the first time the Tigers had challenged a Division I opponent since the Red and White took on the Dayton Flyers in 2011. Wittenberg last saw a victory come over a Division I opponent when the Tigers defeated the Flyers 14-10 on April 11 of 2002. That season, Wittenberg went on to put together multiple 20-win seasons throughout the early 2000s, posting a 21-16 overall record during that 2002 season.

Senior outfielder Ben Gravel went 5-for-5 with a run scored and two RBI to help Saint Joseph's College (1-0) defeat Eastern Nazarene College (0-2), 11-7, in what was the Monks' 2021 season-opener on Wednesday afternoon at Libby Field. St. Joe's, the first NCAA DIII baseball team from Maine to play this spring, featured a lineup completely composed of seniors in today's triumph and the veterans set the tone by notching 17 hits on the afternoon. Originally scheduled to be a nine-inning affair, the game was called after eight innings due to a scheduling conflict at the field. Saint Joseph's is back in action Friday with a pair of games at Fisher College.

The Hiram Terriers won twice against Pitt.-Greensburg, 6-2 and 16-12, on Wednesday picking up two wins in the season opener. The Terriers start the year off 2-0 while Pitt.-Greensburg falls to 0-4. Robert James (1-0) picked up the win for the Terriers, pitching five innings while giving up two runs on six hits with six strikeouts. Also making appearances out of the bullpen for Hiram were Chris Lyle, Neil Robertson, Alexander Zane Brown and John Lusnek.

Lynchburg extended its winning streak to four games Wednesday with a 9-4 road victory over Averett. The Hornets scored a pair of runs in each of the third, fourth, fifth, and sixth innings. Eight Lynchburg players drove in runs in the all-around team victory. Left-hander Adam Dofflemyer earned the win on the mound with 2 ⅔ innings of relief, allowing just one unearned run. The Hornets have scored nine or more runs in each game over the four-game win streak.

Anna Maria College ran their record to 4-0 to start the 2021 season with a 16-4 win over visiting Becker College on Wednesday afternoon at the New England Baseball Complex in Northborough, Massachusetts. It is the best start to a season for the AMCATS in program history. Anna Maria sophomore pitcher Brock Eskildsen picked up the win for the AMCATS for his first victory of the season, coming into the game in relief and striking out three Hawks over three innings and allowing no runs. Fili Veras was a frequent scorer for the AMCATS, with three runs scored.

York notched a series sweep on Wednesday as they downed Lebanon Valley College 7-1 in non-conference action at McGill Stadium. The Spartans finished the series outscoring LVC 22-3 in the two-game set including 12-0 in the first inning. Junior Josh Mann earned the win as York had another staff day. Mann tossed two perfect innings with a strikeout for the Green and White … senior Jack Barry had a big day as he was 2-for-4 with four RBI, two runs scored as he blasted his first home run of the year. Turner added two more hits while he also scored twice and drove in another. Jayden Cowan was the third Spartan with multiple hits as he was 2-for-4 with an RBI. Eight of the nine Spartan starters collected at least one hit in the win.

Grove City opened the 2021 season Wednesday afternoon by sweeping a doubleheader from visiting Waynesburg in Presidents' Athletic Conference action at Jack Behringer Field. The Wolverines won the opener, 2-1, then rolled to a 13-3 victory in game two. Junior pitcher Tate Ostrowski fired a complete game in the opener for Grove City. Ostrowski, who made his first collegiate start Wednesday, struck out 12 and allowed one earned run over seven innings. He permitted only four hits, earning his second career win. Senior pitcher Lake Pry yielded one earned run and four hits as he pitched into the seventh inning of game two.
