Purchase College opened the year in epic fashion Saturday afternoon, as freshman Liam Daly (pictured) opened the scoring with an inside-the-park homer in his first collegiate at-bat in game one and Sam Saltzman hit a walk-off single to give the Panthers a win over Vassar College in game two of a doubleheader. The win came after the Brewers of Vassar prevailed in game one, 4-2. The hosts then won the final contest by the score of 6-5. With the results, both squads sit at 1-1 to start the season.

Marietta, ranked No. 15 nationally, defeated Franklin and Marshall by the score of 13-1. The game was stopped after seven innings due to the NCAA run rule. Kail Hill (3-0) had another strong start on the mound for the Pioneers working 5.0 innings and allowing one unearned run on four hits. Hill walked two and struck out five. Forrest Havanis worked the final 2.0 innings and gave up one hit and struck out three. This was the second loss for F&M in Salem. Roanoke defeated the Diplomats 8-1 in the first of three games in Salem, Virginia on Saturday. The Maroons also scored eight as they defeated Brockport 8-2 in the final game of the day on Roanoke's home field.

Five Pioneers had multi-hit efforts as William Paterson (3-1) rolled to a 12-1 home victory against Utica (0-1). Junior center fielder Jake Lutz's fly ball just tucked inside the left foul pole as it cleared the fence, handing WP a 1-0 first-inning edge, an edge they would not relinquish. The Pioneers finished the scoring with a six-run eighth to ice the game. Carson Weis went 3-for-5 with a double, three RBI and two runs scored. Senior Darmany Rivas struck out eight during his 6.0 innings as the starter, allowing one run on three hits and a walk (2-0).

Penn State Altoona started its week in the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational by splitting a doubleheader with Calvin on Saturday at Northeast Regional Park. Calvin (4-5) posted an 8-1 victory in game one, before Penn State Altoona (2-2) bounced back for a 1-0 shutout win in game two. Calvin established an early lead and grew it throughout the opening game, while Penn State Altoona was unable to generate runs to keep pace. The second game of the doubleheader followed a much different script, with both teams combining for just six hits in an errorless contest. Penn State Altoona scored the game's only run early, and the Lions rode out their lead the rest of the way.

Skidmore opened its season with a 9-5 win over nationally 14th-ranked Catholic University on the road on Saturday afternoon. Six members of the Skidmore starting lineup had multi-hit performances in their season debuts to give Catholic (5-1) its first loss of the year. As well as outhitting the Cardinals 14-10, they took advantage of five Catholic errors. Ameer Hasan got the win. He allowed three runs, two earned, over 5.2 strong innings of work. He walked two and struck out two. Ethan Caiazza recorded seven outs in relief of Hasan. He allowed two runs on three hits with a walk and a strikeout. Jackson Hornung reached base four times. He finished 2-for-3 with two walks and three runs scored.

Sophomore second baseman Chris McGuggart perfectly executed a suicide squeeze with one down in the bottom of the ninth Saturday afternoon, plating freshman outfield Ryan Wasserman to give Farmingdale State a 1-0, extra-innings victory in the nightcap of its season-opening doubleheader against visiting University of Scranton. The Royals (3-2) earned a 17-2 decision in the opening half of the teams' pair of scheduled seven-inning contests, as each team picked up one victory on the day. In the bottom of the ninth, Ryan Wasserman lined a single off of the Royals' pitcher before stealing second base. Sophomore Justin DiMartino sacrificed the freshman to third base, before McGuggart came to the plate after an intentional walk of junior Jordan Lambert. McGuggart then laid a perfect 35-foot squeeze bunt to the first-base side of the mound, as Wasserman slid home ahead of the throw to earn his team a split.

No. 12 Denison won its fourth game in a row to open the 2023 season with a decisive 13-0 victory over No. 21-ranked North Central (Ill.) on Saturday at the Derby City Classic. Denison jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning thanks to an RBI-double by Eric Colaco. A leadoff double by Noah Leib in the top of the second led to a sacrifice fly by Josh Bohn before Colaco hit his second home run in the first four games of the season, this one a three-run blast to make it 5-0 Big Red. Denison was relentless at the plate and added three runs on four hits in the third inning, the last of which was an RBI-single by Bohn, who then smashed a two-out grand slam to make it 12-0 in the fourth inning. Bohn would finish 2-for-2 with a home run and six RBI's for the game while Leib was 2-for-2 with two doubles and three runs scored, Jake Welsch was 2-for-3 and Colaco was 2-for-4 with four RBI's, a homer and a double. On the mound, Charlie Fleming improved to 2-0 with six innings pitched allowing just two hits and three walks while strikeout out five. Patrick Neenan then pitched a 1-2-3 seventh inning and sent the final two batters down swinging. Earlier in the Derby, North Central grinded out a 9-8 thrilling win over Kalamazoo. The 6-2 score with Kalamazoo stayed put until the sixth inning when North Central built a 9-2 lead. Those runs would prove to be important as Kalamazoo used three hits and two Cardinals errors to score four runs in the bottom half of the sixth inning. They added two more in the seventh before Nolan Shannon came in from the bullpen to work out of a bases-loaded jam. Shannon went three-up, three-down in the eighth and retired the first two batters of the ninth inning before having to leave the game due to an injury. With a runner on second, Jason Shanner entered the game needing just one out. He got it as Luka Bolton flew out to right field as the Cardinals held on for a 9-8 win over Kalamazoo.

St. Olaf College split its season-opening doubleheader at Simpson on Saturday, claiming a 2-1 win in game one before falling 4-1 in game two at McBride Field. Sophomore Jacob Fickenscher and first year Kevin Steel combined for eight shutout innings to pitch St. Olaf (1-1) to a 2-1 victory in the opener before Simpson (1-4) limited the Oles to one hit to take game two of the low-scoring twin bill. St. Olaf scored its lone run in the fourth to take a lead, but Simpson shut out the Oles the rest of the way and used a three-run fifth to go on to earn the split. Sam Lavin's one-out triple in the fourth was the lone hit of the game for St. Olaf. The doubleheader marked the first meetings between the two programs in 30 years, as the last matchup between St. Olaf and Simpson came on March 28, 1993.

Millsaps swept a pair of foes in the opening days of the Huntingdon Spring Break Tournament at Neal Posey Field. The Majors defeated Hampden-Sydney, 13-8 on Friday and Middlebury, 9-6 on Saturday. In the opener, senior Wil Wood captivated with six strikeouts, while only surrendering one run, three hits and four walks in 6.0 innings. Sophomore Bradley Pelle (3-5, one run) set a career high with seven RBIs, including a three-run homer, while senior Sam Pitre (3-5, one run) contributed two RBIs. Junior Jackson Hood (5.0 IP, nine strikeouts) and sophomore Nick Tarantino (4.0 IP, eight strikeouts) combined for an incredible 17 punch outs, while each recording career high totals in the win over Middlebury.

Kean edged Heidelberg by the final of 11-10 on Saturday afternoon. Heidelberg jumped out to an early lead but Kean grabbed a lead they would not relinquish, with seven runs in their half of the sixth. Dylan Beyer worked a bases loaded walk and Brett HIlsheimer added two more with a single. Nick Houghton kept things going with a two RBI single later in the inning and Phil Marcantonio added one more with an RBI single of his own. Heidelberg kept chipping away and after adding a single run in the seventh closed the deficit to just one with a two run homer from Andrew Cook in the eighth. Marano entered the game and got out of further trouble and earned his first save of the year closing out the ninth with two flyouts and a strikeout sandwiched around a walk.

Still smarting from a pair of losses to Grove City the previous afternoon, Saint Mary's (Minn.) made the most of its final game of its eight-game spring trip — much to the dismay of Russell Sage. Facing the Gators for the first time in program history, the Cardinals erupted for nine runs — including a win-sealing four-run sixth — as Saint Mary's closed out its Florida swing with a 9-6 nonconference victory. The Cardinals found themselves playing catch-up from the get-go, spotting Russell Sage a two-run advantage in the Gators' first at-bat. But catch-up the Cardinal did.

The nationally 20th-ranked Cortland squad recorded two victories to start a three-game weekend at No. 11 Shenandoah, defeating Susquehanna, 13-4, and throwing a combined two-hitter in an 11-2 win over the nationally 11th-ranked and previously unbeaten homestanding Hornets. Cortland finished with a combined 30 hits over the two contests. Dylan Mackenzie was a combined 6-for-10 with eight RBI. Anthony Fusco started agains the Hornets and allowed two runs on two hits with a walk and two strikeouts in two innings. After that point, Cortland's bullpen did not allow a hit over the final seven innings. Tommy Lynch was awarded the victory after giving up one walk and fanning two in two and a third innings. Matteo Ragusa entered in the fifth and struck out one and walked three in two thirds of an inning. James LaBruno entered in the sixth with one runner on and no outs. He got into some trouble with a walk, wild pitch and hit batter that loaded the bases with no outs, but then struck out the next two hitters and induced an inning-ending fielder's choice grounder. LaBruno went the rest of the way for a four-inning save, finishing the game with six strikeouts and one walk.

Husson earned their first victory of the season as they split a doubleheader with Dominican at Lake Myrtle Sports Park on Saturday at the RussMatt Baseball Invitational. The Stars (2-3) won the first contest, 13-8, before the Eagles (1-2) won the second game, 8-3. The lead in game one alternated between the two teams. The Stars would regain the lead in the bottom half of the fifth inning for good when they put together six unanswered runs. In game two, the Eagles broke the game wide open by scoring five runs on five hits in the fourth to make it 8-1 Husson. With the bases loaded, Warren recorded his second of three hits in the game to score two runs before a RBI-single from Beers. Jackson Curtis delivered a sacrifice fly to score Warren then Stoddard capped off the scoring with a single to score Beers.

Rutgers-Newark swept their non-conference doubleheader against St. Joseph's University-Brooklyn, 5-0 and 10-5. The pair of wins lift the Scarlet Raiders to 5-1 overall and extended their win streak to four in a row. The Bears fell to 0-2 on the year with the pair of losses. The Scarlet Raiders scattered seven hits as a team and played clean baseball in the field in the opener. Eric Recchia continues to put together an outstanding sophomore campaign as he finished 3-for-3 and an RBI in game one while his brother Paul Recchia finished with a pair of RBIs. Marcus James (2-0) picked up his second win of the season with a complete game shutout with five strikeouts. Daniel Reardon got the start on the mound for the Scarlet Raiders in game two and tallied three strikeouts while allowing four hits. Michael Weinbel and Gianmarco Acevedo each tallied two hits while Dario Morales paced the team with 3 RBIs.

Franklin welcomed the Flying Dutch of Hope College to Center Grove HS on Saturday for two games between a pair of 2022 regular season conference champions. The Grizzlies (4-2) and the Dutch (2-2) split the twin bill, with Hope taking the opener in 10 inning 14-12 and Franklin battling back to win game two 5-4. The Dutch got two to tie the game in the ninth and plated five runs in the 10th. Sean Sullivan clubbed a three-run blast in the bottom of the 10th but the rally ended one batter later. Franklin got on the board in the bottom of the first when Noah Wood crushed a two-out, three-run home run to put Franklin in front for good. The Dutch got a run back in the fourth but Wood restored the three-run lead with a solo home run in the fifth to make it a 4-1 game. Hope plated two runs in their half of the seventh but Wood made it 5-3 Franklin in the bottom of the frame when he scored on a wild pitch. The Dutch got another run in the eighth but Maddox Manes set the guests down in order in the ninth to close out the win and earn his first career save.

Cabrini put up 14 runs on 15 hits Saturday morning as the Cavaliers topped Manhattanville College 14-6 in the final game of their 2023 Spring Training trip. After starter Pat Toal tossed a scoreless top of the first, the Cavaliers (7-4) jumped out on top 4-0 in the bottom half as a Valiants miscue and a Jake Eagle triple led to three Cabrini runs. In the fourth, the Cavs added five more runs on four hits as Eagle, Glass, and Sutton each had RBI-singles in the inning. Garrett Laraia put the finishing touches on the day with an RBI-single of his own to plate Sutton. Cabrini pitching combined for 11 punchouts on the day as Toal finished with five in 2 and 2/3 innings followed by five K's and 2 and 1/3 perfect innings from Jordan Silvestri. At the plate, Jake Eagle finished the day 3-for-5 with three RBIs and was a halfway to the cycle with a triple and a double.

Maryville's winning ways continued Saturday as the Scots picked up victories in both ends of a doubleheader against Bob Jones at Scotland Yard. MC outscored the Bruins 18-1 in 14 innings of play, winning Game 1 with a score of 11-1, ending the game due to the run rule after a Christian Carlton single scored two runs and put the Scots ahead by 10 runs in the bottom of the seventh. Game 2 was scheduled for seven innings and the Scots wasted no time putting runs on the board. They scored four runs in the first inning and put up at least one in four of their six trips to the plate. The Scots bats picked up 17 hits across the two games but it was Maryville's pitchers that shined in the twin bill.

Mary Washington held off Keystone, 7-6, on Saturday in Myrtle Beach, S.C. After two scoreless frames, the Eagles jumped ahead with three runs in the third, as one run scored on a passed ball, another on a Ty Lowe sacrifice fly, and a third on a Luke Guerzon RBI single. Keystone scored twice in the fourth, but UMW got one back in the bottom of the inning, as Xavier Herring reached on a fielder's choice and scored on an error. After allowing a run in the sixth, UMW scored solo runs in the sixth, seventh, and eighth, before fighting off a three-run rally in the ninth for the win. Herring had two hits and three runs scored for the offense, while Bobby Ayscue added a hit and walk. Junior Brendan McComber gained the win - his third in as many starts - allowing three runs on six hits in 7.2 innings, with three walks and 11 strikeouts.

Gallaudet swept a non-conference doubleheader Saturday
against Geneva College at a blustery Hoy Field. The Bison
needed extra innings to defeat the Golden Tornadoes, 10-9
in eight innings, and held on to win the second game, 7-5.

Chatham snapped its six-game losing streak Saturday morning with a 6-5 walk-off win against Albion. The Cougars went 2-6 in Florida and are now 4-6 overall on the season. Albion made it 3-2 in the fourth, but sophomore catcher Tyler Cote continued to swing his hot bat, driving in Lehman and Cuello with a single in the seventh to increase the Chatham lead to 5-2. Cote leads the team with 11 RBI on the year. The Briton mounted a fierce comeback in the eighth, tying the game at 5. However, it was Lehman who got the last laugh in the bottom of the ninth, notching a walk-off double that scored junior infielder Benny Dottle. Lehman was 3-5 with two doubles, two runs scored and the game-winning RBI. Junior pitcher Dom Costellic got the start for Chatham, going 4.0 innings with four strikeouts, two hits allowed and two earned runs. Sophomore pitchers Kole Mayle and Gavin Phillips each threw two scoreless innings out of the pen, with only one hit allowed a piece. Mayle earned the win in relief.

Senior Hayden Snelsire struck out 11 in five scoreless innings in the opener, senior Ethan Iannuzzi homered twice and knocked in eight, and sophomore Aaron Lautenschlager went 6 for 7 with five runs and three RBI, as the 23rd-ranked Randolph-Macon swept a doubleheader from Messiah, 15-1 and 7-3, on Saturday afternoon. In game one Iannuzzi had a grand slam to highlight a nine-run fourth as the Yellow Jackets went up 13-0. In game two it was another Iannuzzi home run that highlighed a win as he smacked a three-run homer with two away, his second of the day and third of the season.

Rose-Hulman brought home a pair of wins in their Saturday doubleheader to close out their spring trip. The Fightin' Engineers beat Bridgewater 8-6 in game one, and they beat Ferrum 13-12 in game two. In the first game, the Fightin' Engineers were able to put up seven runs on just three hits to take an early 7-4 lead. Bridgewater would chip away with a couple of runs in the fourth and fifth. owever, Josh Erpenbeck was the answer that Rose-Hulman needed as he pitched 3.1 innings of one-hit baseball to hold Bridgewater scoreless. Jonathan Oliger would come in to get the final two outs of the game in the ninth to record the save. In game two, the Fightin' Engineers would again get out to a great start with a six-run second inning on a pair of home run balls. Ferrum would rally in the bottom of the ninth with five runs, but with two on and two out, Schuyler Wilcox got the Panthers batter to ground out to end the game.

Hardin-Simmons swept an American Conference doubleheader winning 2-1 in eight innings in the first game and taking the nightcap 12-5 on Saturday at Hunter Field. The Cowboys' Grant Mitzelfelt and the Eagles' Isaac Felts locked up in a pitching duel in what was supposed to be a seven-inning game. The game remained 1-1 until the bottom of the eighth inning when freshman Karson Leatherwood singled home Colby Seltzer for the walkoff win in the eighth inning. The second game was shortened to seven innings by league rules as the first game went to extra innings. It started as a slugfest as Ozarks scored two runs in the first and the Cowboys came right back with three runs. Ozarks scored three runs in the second to take a 5-3 lead and the Cowboys came back with three runs in the third inning. HSU continuted to add runs as they cruised to the sweep.

A total of 24 strikeouts over 16 innings helped the Panthers collect two victories on the day as they opened Southern Athletic Association play against The University of the South. Birmingham-Southern collected two victories by scores of 9-1 and 7-2. The Panthers jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead after two innings in game one. Sewanee scored their lone run in the third, but BSC quickly got that back scoring one in the top of the fourth. Joey White and Hansen McCown combined for 16 strikeouts in the game as they limited Sewanee to one run on five hits. The Panthers picked up right where they left off recording 12 hits in the 7-2 victory in game two of the doubleheader against The University of the South. The pitching staff allowed two runs on nine hits while striking out eight.

Seven runs scored in the eighth inning pushed UW-Oshkosh past Webster, 14-3, on Saturday afternoon. The St. Louis, Mo. Based Gorloks play their home games across the Mississippi River at GCS Credit Union Ballpark in Sauget. Entering the eighth with a 3-2 lear, UWO's offense opened up. After a single and walk, Brenden Max reached first on a sacrifice bunt and advanced to second on an error. Connor Giusti made it from second to home to add another run to the Titans' lead. Two batters later, Matt Scherrman scored two when he singled to center, then second on an error. Zach Taylor and Nicholas Shiu each recorded drove in two runs with a single and home run in back-to-back at bats. After the last out of the inning was recorded, Oshkosh led Webster 10-2. UWO's Taylor hit his first home run of the year in the top of the ninth with a grand slam to right to end the scoring.

Wartburg won its fifth-straight game with a 4-3 win over RPI on Saturday. The Knights are now 5-3 overall ths season. Each team had two hits in the first three innings, but neither were able to bring any runs across. Keaton Gray and Cole Wessling both singled in the bottom of the third. After a three up and three down top of the fourth, the Knights scored first after an Eliot Jurgensen groundout scored Zach Walton. The score remained 1-0 through the top of the seventh and starting pitcher Nick Nin was subbed out for Hunter Sehr. Drew Conrad scored in the bottom of the seventh after a Will Armstrong RBI single made the score 2-0. RPI cut the lead in half with an RBI single in the eighth, but the Knights left three stranded to hold a 2-1 lead. Wartburg added some insurance runs in the eighth after an RBI from Jurgensen and Wessling.

Elms opened up their week in Florida overpowering the Martin Luther Knights in the double header on Saturday. The Blazers surged to victory outscoring the Knights 7-1 in the first game and 18-2 in the second. Elms College knocked in six runs in the fourth on its way to a 7-1 victory over Martin Luther College on Saturday. George Chaya and Nate Kelley powered the big inning with RBIs. A ten-run third inning led Elms College to an 18-2 victory on Saturday. Elms College offense in the inning was led by Josh Nohilly, CJ Moriarty, Austin Roy, AJ Cook, Tyler Galenski, and Chase Prestia, all sending runners across the plate with RBIs in the inning.

Rochester wrapped up a series win to start their spring break trip against Occidental on Saturday at Anderson Baseball Field, defeating the Tigers, 5-3, in extras in game one of the doubleheader, and dropping game two, 10-3, before finishing off Friday evening's suspended game with an 8-7 victory in 12. Joseph Rende flew out to end the frame with the score still even at three, but after Sammy Rosenfield worked around a two-out walk to send the game into extras, UR got right back to it in the top of the 10th. Colby Cruser led off the inning and reached on an error, and Colton Avera followed with a single to right, putting two on with nobody out. A groundout pushed the Cruser and Avera to second and third for John Moses, who walked to load the bases for Quincy Jaksch. Rochester would threaten to tie things up in the top of the sixth in game two, loading the bases as Occidental went to the bullpen, but Jon Thoren got a fly out and strikeout to get out of the jam unscathed, and then the Tigers scored six runs in the bottom of the sixth to put the game away, working around Cruser's leadoff single in the top of the seventh to finish off the 10-3 victory. Rochester rallied from down seven, scoring three in the eighth and four in the ninth to even the score at 7-all before the game was called due to darkness in the Top of the 12th following two scoreless frames. Following Rochester's Saturday doubleheader against Occidental, the Yellowjackets and Tigers resumed the suspended game in the top of the 12th and the 'Jackets quickly took the lead before finishing off the victory to wrap up a series win.

The No. 5 nationally ranked Baldwin Wallace squad picked up a 7-6 walkoff win in game one on the day when sophomore infielder Sean Kolenich snuck one by the shortstop to cap off a four run ninth inning against Rhode Island College at Centennial Park on Field #9. On the same field, the Yellow Jackets couldn't find another late surge as Misericordia won 15-9 in 10 innings. BW (6-1) was led at the plate in the opener by senior outfielder Andrew Parker who went 1-3 and tied things up in the ninth with a three-run homer. Senior All-American first baseman Luke Vonderhaar went 1-4 with a two-run homer. In the ninth in the nightcap, Connor Maryniak hit a solo home run that tied things at 9-9. In the 10th, Misericordia scored picked up six runs. The scoring started with a bases loaded walk, followed by a Bollinger two run single, another run would score on a balk, followed by a run scoring on an error and then one last sacrifice fly gave them a 15-9 advantage.

The nationally ranked No. 19 Ithaca squad scored 12 total runs in their final at bats during a doubleheader at the United States Merchant Marine Academy on Saturday to top the Mariners, 8-4 and 10-3. Ithaca is now 4-1 on the season. The Bombers scored five runs in the top of the seventh inning in the opener to secure the 8-4 victory and then plated seven runs in the 10th inning of the night cap. Kyle Lambert finished off the complete game in the seventh as he fanned seven batters over the course of his outing to no walks. Lambert allowed nine hits and three earned runs in his first win of the season. Colin Leyner started on the mound for IC and struck out 12 batters over 8.0 innings and allowed just three hits and two walks before giving way to Griffin, who picked up the win. Landon White finished off the game with a scoreless 10th inning. In the top of the 10th, Cutaia led off with a walk and then was pinch ran for by Colin Shashaty. A fielder's choice by Fabbo recorded the first out of the inning, but a walk to Ethan Daddabbo put two runners on. Rothstein gave IC a 4-3 lead with a base hit and then Feeney was intentionally walked to load the bases. Riley Brawdy drove in two with a double to the gap, giving IC a 6-4 lead. A passed ball brought home the seventh run of the game as Feeney scored. An RBI bunt from Shashaty continued the rally and then Fabbo put the game away with a two-run single.

Graduate student Jacob Serafini hit his second career home run and drove in four runs, while senior Jack Thomson sent two over the right field fence to lead Lewis & Clark College to a doubleheader split against Whitworth in a Northwest Conference road doubleheader that was moved to southeastern Washington due to the winter weather in Spokane. Lewis abd Clark lost the opener 7-5 and won the nightcap 12-3. After Whitworth won a back-and-forth game one and scored in the first two innings of the second game, sophomore Luke Ritter and seniors Kevin Kane and Kris Wuelfing held the Pirates to seven scoreless innings. Serafini, Thomson, and sophomore Will Heron combined for eight of the Pioneers' 13 RBI to lead the hot-hitting offense.
