Salve Regina sweeps on Sunday, ECSU extends win streak

The bats were alive for Arcadia University, scoring 40 runs in its doubleheader sweep of Delaware Valley University in Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom play on Sunday. In game two, Anthony Bruno became the first player in program history to have three multi-homer games in a career, and matched the single-game record for RBI's and runs scored, while Matthew Sot became the 10th player in program history to have five hits in a game.

Hunter Yaworski rocked two home runs and two doubles while going 4-for-7 with four ribbies to lead Salve Regina University to a sweep of Babson College, 7-3 and 8-5, in NEWMAC action at rainy Reynolds Field in Newport.

Junior lefty Dan Driscoll allowed only two hits in six shutout innings of relief and senior shortstop Zach Donahue's seventh-inning solo home run proved to be the game-winner as the No. 20 Eastern Connecticut State University claimed its 20th straight win, 5-4, over the University of Southern Maine in the first game of a Little East Conference doubleheader Sunday afternoon at Ed Flaherty Field. In the second game, graduate lefty Owen Sullivan pitched a complete-game five-hitter and Southern Maine (5-16, 4-5 LEC) scored at least once in each of its at-bats in the Huskies' 11-1, seven-inning victory. With the first-game win, Eastern (21-6, 8-1 LEC) completed the fourth-longest winning streak in program history, exceeded only by the 2003 team and by the 2022 national championship team (23) and the 1982 national championship team (21).

Powered by another dominant pitching performance from fifth-year senior Dylan Weber and a timely offensive showing, the 15th-ranked Christopher Newport baseball team rebounded from its first loss in over three weeks with an impressive 10-0 shutout on the road at William Peace on Sunday afternoon. Weber struck out 12 and improved to 6-1 on the season while the Captains picked up win number 20 on the season against the Pacers. Weber took the mound for the 12th time this season and his trend of historic milestones continued as he tied the program record with his 51st career start. The left-hander from Sterling, Virginia threw six strong innings in his second start of the week and joined the top ten in all-time pitching appearances with his 57th outing. Recording the win, Weber passed Eben Brower and took over sole possession of third all-time on the career victories chart with 24. Additionally, he moved into the top-five in career inning spitched, passing Cliff Wester (1998-02) with 268.2 innings. Most impressively, he passed another milestone in career strikeouts, eclipsing 350 career punchouts to join Kenny Moreland (2005-08) and Mike Cosby (2002-05) as the only Captains to ever reach the total.

Tyler VanCise struck out the side after Whitman had runners on second and third with none out in the top of the ninth to help Whitworth hold on to a 6-5 win over the visiting Blues in a Northwest Conference game on Sunday at Merkel Field. he Pirates (19-9 overall, 8-7 NWC) salvaged one of the three conference games against first place Whitman (18-10, 12-6), keeping their conference tournament hopes alive. The teams are slated to play a seven-inning non-conference contest this afternoon to complete the weekend. After taking both halves of Saturday's doubleheader, the Blues appeared on their way to a conference series sweep after jumping to a 3-0 lead in the first two innings. Whitman retook a 5-4 lead in the fifth on a two-run home run by Nate Korahais, but Whitworth tied it up again in the bottom half of the fifth on Ty Quiggle's RBI single. Jacob Doughty's third home run of the season in the bottom of the sixth was the decisive run. Relievers Hunter Williams and VanCise made that run stand up. Pirate starter Conner Ashworth went four innings and allowed three runs on five hits and three walks with four strikeouts. Williams pitched the next four frames and gave up only the home run to Korahais in the fifth.

The Edgewood College Eagles wrapped up a busy week Sunday on the road. They faced the Marian Sabres in a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference doubleheader. The Eagles (14-11, 8-4 NACC) held the Sabres (14-11, 8-4) offense in check game one in a 7-2 victory, but the Sabres got rolling with a 18-4 (7 innings) victory in game two. In the opener, a sacrifice fly to center field tallied one in the sixth for the hosts, but the Eagles put things out of reach in the seventh. Terry Tolliver Jr. plated one with a single to right field. Dylan Carrington added on one with a double to right, before Ryan Ambrosy put a bow on game one with a single through the right side for a 7-2 final tally. The Sabres leaped out to a 9-0 lead after the first two innings in game two and Edgewood could not catch the Sabres. Marian owns a 44-35 lead in the all-time series.

In a top-25 nationally-ranked nonconference matchup, No. 2 Denison University hosted and came out on top over No. 22 Case Western Reserve University by a final score of 8-5 on Sunday evening at Big Red Baseball Field. Case was coming into the game after putting up 28 runs against Ohio Wesleyan University, 28-3, earlier in the day, so the potential was there for this to be a high-scoring affair, and it sure started that way with at least one run in each half inning through the first three innings of the game. Down 5-3 heading into the bottom of the third inning, Denison put up a five spot. The five-run inning for the Big Red was capped off by a two-run single to left field by Jack Lutte to score two. After coming in to pitch with the bases loaded and nobody out in the top of the third inning, Michael Gray (1-0) got three straight outs on a flyout to center field and back-to-back strikeouts. From there, Gray limited the Spartans to just two hits over the next five innings to right the ship for the Big Red pitching staff.

Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology rode their hot bats to their third consecutive victory as they took down DePauw 16-8 after scoring the first 15 runs of the game. The Fightin' Engineers got the scoring started in the first inning with an RBI double by Colter Couillard-Rodak and a two-run home run by Dalton Busboom to give Rose-Hulman a 3-0 lead. After a scoreless second, Rose-Hulman extended their lead to double digits with an eight run inning, with seven of those runs coming with two outs. Caleb Frakes, Mason Rasmussen, Peter Rogers, Couillard-Rodak, Connor O'Connell, and Busboom all added RBI hits in the inning. With an 11-run lead, the Fightin' Engineers kept their bats rolling as they added four runs on RBI hits from Rasmussen, Kade Kline, and Rogers to extend the lead to 15-0. DePauw would add two runs in the fifth, one in the sixth, and five in the seventh, to cut the lead to 15-8. Dylan Page would add an RBI single in the ninth, and Rose-Hulman would hold on a for a 16-8 victory.

The UW-Stout Blue Devils hit six home runs to sweep a doubleheader, 7-6 and 7-3, with UW-Stevens Point Sunday afternoon. Jack Redwine and Leyton Bowers hit back-to-back home runs in the bottom of the ninth to walk off the 24th ranked Pointers as all of Stout's runs came courtesy of the long ball. Drew Buss threw six innings and the Blue Devils had 10 hits in a 7-3 win in game two. Quintin Gonzalez pitched three innings on hit ball in relief to earn the save. Justin Sedin, Riley Boushack and Jack Schirpke each had two hits for the Blue Devils.

Cortland scored a combined 42 runs, including 13 in the first inning of the opening game, and the Red Dragons swept host Rosemont College, 22-0 and 20-10, in a non-league doubleheader. The first game was called after seven innings and the second game ended after eight innings due to pre-agreed upon 10-run mercy rule. Cortland stretched its winning streak to 13 games and is now 19-8-1 on the season. Cortland nearly batted around twice during its 13-run first inning, sending 17 players to the plate. The Red Dragons recorded a 13-run inning for the second straight year; Cortland scored 13 runs in the seventh inning last season in a win at Brevard. In game two, Seven Red Dragons finished with multiple hits as Cortland totaled 22 hits for the second straight game. Jon Munoz (Yorktown Heights/Yorktown) went 4-for-6 with two homers, two doubles, three RBI and three runs scored. He hit a solo homer for the first run in a five-run second and a two-run homer as part of a five-run fourth.

Sophomore Carter Schmitt had four hits and three RBI as Randolph-Macon split an ODAC doubleheader at No. 17 Shenandoah on Sunday afternoon. Shenandoah won the opener 10-4 and RMC took game two 8-4. Junior Chaz Harvey had a leadoff homer in the top of the second to start the scoring for the Yellow Jackets only to see the Hornets put up five in the bottom of the second. RMC responded in the third to make it a one-run contest. SU added five in the fifth for the final runs scored in the game. In game two, the RMC offense started the scoring again and then put up a crooked number in the second. With runs in the fourth and sixth, the Yellow Jackets had enough offense to win. Senior Drew Ramos pitched the first five innings for RMC with four hits, one run, no walks and five strikeouts to earn the win and improve to 6-0. Junior Sam Slevin tossed the final two innings with no runs and three strikeouts to record his sixth save.

Graduate student Michael Reyes hit a three-run home run in the top of the third inning as Stevens Institute of Technology beat DeSales 9-6 Sunday afternoon. Junior Matt Villapiano (3-1) earned the win. He pitched in two innings and gave up just two hits. He also struck out two batters. Senior Erik Buurman (3) earned his team-leading third save of the year. He struck out the side in the ninth inning. Sophomore William Sotiropoulos started the game, lasting three and two-thirds innings. He gave up three hits and two runs while striking out five batters. With the win, Stevens earned a huge series win over DeSales, as they will now have the tiebreaker over the Bulldogs if it is needed down the stretch. Stevens is now 18-10 on the year. They also have a 10-5 record in conference play, which sits them third in the current standings. The Ducks are now 9-3 in away games this year. The Ducks are 11-9 all-time against DeSales. The Bulldogs drop to 14-15 for the season, with a 8-7 record in MAC Freedom play.

No. 3 nationally ranked Baldwin Wallace University swept Muskingum University in a rescheduled Ohio Athletic Conference doubleheader by scores of 9-3 and 13-5 at Mose Morehead Field. BW (24-4, 9-1 OAC) played from behind early in Game 1 but scored seven straight to take care of Muskingum (15-12, 6-4 OAC). The Brown and Gold started off hot in the second game as they took an early lead in the first inning and added some insurance runs in four of the next five frames and added a five-run eighth to secure their ninth victory in conference play.

Kean University finished off the season sweep of #12/8 Montclair State University with a 5-2 win on Sunday afternoon. Southpaw Jason Gilman (3-3) tossed a complete game, the first of his career, and allowed seven hits, only one extra base hit, and four walks while striking out 12. Offensively Christian Pellone and Justin Teixeira each had two hits.

It was even better than a Wendy's Meal Deal to punctuate the weekend at Fishbaugh Field, as Otterbein created its own "4 for 4" special with yet another OAC doubleheader sweep. Roughly 18 hours after taking both games from Heidelberg on Saturday, the Cardinals returned to their home diamond on Sunday for a rescheduled twinbill with Marietta as the league scheduled works through it hearty point.Otterbein claimed the opener 14-7 behind a near complete-game effort from Bryson Bell, and then worked all the way to the wire in securing an 8-7 walk-off finish in the rematch. As a result, the squad moves to 22-7 overall and a smooth 8-2 record within the conference.

Connor Maryniak hit and pitched Misericordia University to a 7-4 win over FDU-Florham as the Cougars completed a series sweep, Sunday at Tambur Field. Maryniak struck out nine over seven scoreless innings and hit a two-run homer in the fifth inning. Gabe Bunn had two hits and two RBI. The Cougars took a 1-0 lead on Bunn's single in the second. Maryniak homered in the fifth and Bunn added an RBI-single later in the inning to give MU a 4-0 lead. Jason Sanfilippo's sacrifice fly in the sixth made it 5-0 and Brooks Kanwisher followed with an RBI-single to stretch the lead to 6-0. Jared Hoffman doubled in a run in the eighth to make it 7-0.

Zach Taylor recorded nine hits in 11 at-bats as UW-Oshkosh split with UW-La Crosse at Copeland Park on Sunday with a 17-6 win and a 17-15 loss. Taylor went 4-for-5 and reached on an error in his third at-bat, recording a base in each of his plate appearances in the first game of the day and went 4-for-4 before a groundout ended his on-base streak in the seventh inning of game two. He finished the day with five runs scored, five RBIs, two doubles and two home runs.

J. Kyle Anderson Field was once again busy on Sunday as University of Chicago completed their three-game series against Lawrence. The Maroons offense was productive early and secured their second win in three games, a 12-6 win, over the conference leading Vikings on a beautiful day in Chicago. Just like in game two yesterday, University of Chicago (9-16, 8-3 MWC) got the jump on Lawrence (20-8, 12-2 MWC) early in the contest. However, it was the next frame that UChicago did the most damage in. Less than 24 hours after having a seven-run inning, the Maroons did the same thing with four runs coming across via an error or wild pitch. The only RBIs in the stanza went to Goldstein who started off the action with a two-run single. The bullpen played a pivotal role in the victory after they took over for starter Bailey Jackson. Phil Hogan got the win with two scoreless innings in relief while Grant Tenuta, Kason Pelz, and Sam Klanot also helped lock down the 12-6 victory and the series win over the Vikings.

Plattsburgh State completed the State University of New York Athletic Conference sweep over Fredonia on Sunday afternoon in dominating fashion, winning 16-2 in seven innings. Andrew Veit threw six excellent innings striking out eight, while Daniel Novelli drove in four runs to lead the offense. Veit tossed six innings, giving up just two earned runs, and striking out eight batters to earn his third win of the season. Novelli had three singles to drive in four runs, while Aidan Diltz had a double and single to drive in two runs. Alex Kornblau and Austin Caldwell each had two-run homers, as Kornblau's blast gave him 10 for his career, tying him with Dave Waldron and Toddy Hughes for second all-time in program history, trailing the program record of 11 by Pat Shaughnessy. Caldwell's homer was the first of his career, as he helped the Cards pull away for the run-rule win.

After a tough loss on the road to Wilson College, Keystone came back home to play them in a doubleheader on Sunday afternoon. Keystone won game one of this matchup with a final score of 5-2 but fell just short in game two with a score of 7-6 after the game got called at the end of the eight due to weather. On the mound, Ketstone's Brayan Villar picked up his fourth win of the season after pitching a complete seven-inning game. Villar struck out 10 batters in game one while giving up three hits, two earned runs, and two walks. Wilson grabbed the series win in game marred by a mid-game weather delay and ended in the eighth due to inclement weather.

Kalamazoo College played the rescheduled contest from Friday at Adrian and took the series after defeating Adrian 9-7 on Sunday. The Hornets' record improved to 19-7 (8-3 MIAA) on the season, and the Bulldogs dropped to 16-10 (7-3 MIAA). Halfway through the conference season, Kalamazoo is second behind Hope by half of a game. Logan Lockhart made the start and lasted 5.1 innings, allowing four runs (three earned) on seven hits with two strikeouts. Blake Parpart relieved Lockhart in the sixth inning, got one out after facing three batters, and was charged two unearned runs. Robert Ahlgren (3-1) received the win after getting the last out of the sixth and pitching three innings with one unearned run on four hits and three walks. Owen Schihl earned his first career save after getting the Hornets out of a bases-loaded jam in the bottom of the ninth.

No. 1 nationally ranked Endicott shut out Colby, 8-0, on Sunday afternoon at Colby Baseball Field. The Gulls controlled the game right out the gate, as Joey Frammartino crushed a leadoff home run to center field. They added some insurance runs in the second inning with AJ Hamm's first-career round-tripper, a two-run blast down the left-field line, and Nicolas Notarangelo's opposite-field two-run double to left field. Brenden Walsh then joined in on the offensive onslaught in the fifth, as he punched an RBI single through the left side of the infield to put the Gulls up 6-0. The Blue and Green notched two more runs via a Robbie Wladkowski sixth-inning fielder's choice and a Notarangelo seventh-inning sac fly to left. Connolly got the nod on the mound for the second straight contest and did not disappoint. He tossed his first-career complete game and limited the Mules to just five base runners over the nine frames while fanning eight.

Mount Union won, 5-3, over Westminster in a non-conference contest at home on Sunday. Mount Union (20-8) was down 3-1 through six innings, however, graduate Zack Mazza continued his long ball streak with another home run, this time a two-run shot to left center field, putting the Purple Raiders in front 4-3 in the seventh. Junior Joe Lenart added an insurance run with a sacrifice fly in the eighth. Graduate Eric Schilling had a solo home run in the second. Freshman pitcher Christopher Maurer improved to 2-0 on the season, after coming in for relief and only allowed one hit in four scoreless innings, while striking out four.

Suffolk jumped out to a six-run lead in the first five frames and Harry Painter fanned 10 batters en route to a 6-3 game two victory over Western New England Sunday at the Trelease Park. Suffolk opened an early 2-0 edge and extened it a run in the third. A three-run fifth padded Suffolk's advantage to six. WNE started to figure Painter out in the home half of the sixth as a sac fly and a bases loaded walk allowed the host to get on the board. The right-handed hurler managed to gain composure and got out of the bases loaded jam with his 10th K of the day as he sat Cody Waterbury down swinging to hold the 6-2 lead for the Rams. The score remained the same until the bottom of the ninth. With Pierce Salbego on the mound, two outs and the bases chucked, the Rams reliever walked a run in to allow WNE to pull with three. Aaron Cole, the go-ahead run, sent the ball down the first base line, but Sorenti-Burns managed to glove it and set up on first to seal the victory and doubleheader sweep for Suffolk.

Washington & Jefferson College rolled up 31 runs on 30 hits to power past visiting Waynesburg University, 14-7 and 17-4, in a Presidents' Athletic Conference doubleheader Sunday at Ross Memorial Park. W&J served as the road team in both games due to a site change in the conference doubleheader and took advantage of the opportunity to bat first. The Presidents scored early and often in both games to register the key conference sweep over the Yellow Jackets, who entered the day second in the conference and riding high after a seven-game winning streak.

In what could easily be considered the game of the year, Wilkes batted around the order and put 11 runs on the board in the eighth inning to complete a massive comeback over Catholic University in the final game of their Landmark Conference series Sunday afternoon at Bruggeworth Field. Catholic jumped out to an early 2-0 lead and Cardinals were successful in keeping the offense at bay to preserve their lead until the fateful eighth. Michael Show came in to pitch from center field and shut down the Cardinals to secure the comeback victory. Despite only throwing two pitches, Jezewski picked up his first collegiate victory by recording the final out of the eighth inning. Spencer went 3-3 at the plate with one RBI while Luksic and Brazofksy shared the team lead with three RBIs apiece. As an offensive unit, the Colonels put up 13 runs on ten hits.

Stockton University (16-12, 7-3 NJAC) played solid baseball in grinding out a 5-2 victory over The College of New Jersey (18-8, 6-4 NJAC) by a 5-2 score on Sunday afternoon. Six different Ospreys had hits on the day with Nick Avagnano providing the big blow with a two-run home run and scoring twice on the day. The contest was rescheduled from Friday's rain out. Stockton opened the scoring in the first inning on a Jordan Nitti RBI for a 1-0 lead. The home team scored single runs in the bottom of the fourth on an error and sixth on a fielder's choice for a 3-0 lead. Avagnano blasted his team leading fifth home run in the seventh inning to pad the margin to 5-0, before the Lions sliced into the lead. Two runs in the top of the eighth inning made it 5-2 before Reece Miller came on to put out the fire. He earned his fifth save of the season by getting the final five outs of the game, preserving the three-run victory for Stockton. Alfonso Lombardi picked up his third win of the season, tossing five shutout innings and scattering five hits. Freshman Danny Furlong and Kyle Cipolla came on in relief of Lombardi with 1.1 innings combined, to set up Miller who pitched 1.2 innings with two strikeouts. The Lions were led by Zach Hochheiser who had three of the team's 10 hits on the day.

UW-Whitewater finished out their sweep of UW-Eau Claire on Sunday, with a 15-1 7-inning win in the first game before a 14-7 second game. Throughout the four games, the Warhawks had a dominant hitting streak, with a total of 62 runs, 71 hits, 13 doubles, 2 triples, and 10 home runs. The first game was another short one, with the Warhawks picking up right where they left off from yesterday. In the first four at-bats of the game, the Warhawks already had 3 hits and the bases loaded. The Blugolds got out of the inning, but the Warhawks were able to add 2 runs in the first inning. The Warhawks added on four more runs in innings two & three, with a 6-0 lead heading into the fifth. The UWW offense exploded in the fifth inning, hitting off 9 runs to increase the lead to 15-0. The Warhawks picked up right where they left off the opener, but the Blugolds managed to keep it the closest margin all series. The Warhawks scored 4 runs in the opening inning, with Andy Thies hitting a two run home run to finish out the inning. At his next at-bat Thies hit another solo home run, putting the Warhawks up 7-1 in the third inning. The Warhawks got the 10-run lead they needed, but the Blugolds put together some runs to force the game into the full 9. The Warhawks added on another run in the top of the ninth, leading 14-7 heading into the final half inning. The defense did the work in the bottom of the ninth, with three straight outs after the lead runner got on first.
