VERONA, Wis. - Edgewood College's pitching staff did a fair job of keeping the Northern Athletics Conference's top hitting offense in check most of the day. The offense, on the other hand, simply couldn't generate enough runs and Concordia University Chicago left Stampfl field with a pair of wins, 6-4 and 6-0, on Saturday.

In game one, Concordia Chicago starter Brenden Schulz held the Eagles to just two hits through the first six innings of play. The Cougars led 3-0 at that point on a bases loaded single by Ryan Pacyga in the fourth and a pair of RBI groundouts in the fifth. Edgewood College (7-11, 2-4 NAC) broke through against Schulz in the seventh inning. Andrew King doubled and moved to third on a wild pitch, where Mitch Mogensen drove him home with a ground ball through the Cougars' shortstop, Eric Ignatowski.

Concordia Chicago (16-4, 4-0 NAC) scored a pair in the eighth to chase Edgewood College starter Trevor Koehn and give themselves a 5-1 lead, before the Eagles put together their best inning of the night. Ryan Walker and Jake Zadra singled and Mike Selvaggi was hit by a pitch to load the bases with nobody out. Pinch hitter Nate Ramsden scored Walker with a sacrifice fly, which was followed two batters later with a two-run single by King. Alex Jaskulski singled, forcing the Cougars to go to their bullpen with closer Pat Conlin. Conlin did the job, inducing an inning-ending ground ball from Eagle pinch hitter Joe Gura. The Cougars tacked on an unearned run in the ninth inning for the final margin.

Koehn pitched 7.1 innings, striking out five and allowing just three earned runs on seven hits. King was the only Eagle with two hits in the game, going 2-for-4 with a double and two runs batted in. Zadra extended his hitting streak to eight consecutive games. Edgewood College was plagued by five errors in the field.

In the second game, Edgewood College pitchers Miles Mayer and James Bertakis kept the Cougars away from any big innings, but the Eagle offense was haunted by three Cougars double plays turned in the first four innings. The Eagles tallied eight singles in the first five innings, but came away with nothing to show for it in the runs column. Edgewood College managed just one hit the rest of the way, a ninth inning single by Jaskulski.

The Cougars' two big blows were a two-run triple by catcher Nick Skala in the third and a solo home run to left field by Joe Romano. Starting pitcher gave up eight hits, but no runs in five innings of work.
Jaskulski continued his hot hitting, recording the first three-hit game of his career with a 3-for-4 effort. Scott Ortega and Gura each went 2-for-4. Mayer struck out four hitters and gave up three earned runs in six innings pitched. Bertakis allowed just one hit in over the final three innings.

The Eagles will travel to Rockford College on Sunday for another NAC doubleheader before returning home for a pair of UW system schools. Edgewood College will travel to UW-Platteville on Tuesday, before hosting UW-Parkside on Wednesday.
