Levine's Sac Fly Gives Rams Win over RPI

Farmingdale, N.Y. - A sacrifice fly to center field by freshman designated hitter Ryan Levine (West Babylon, N.Y.) in the ninth inning gave the Farmingdale State baseball team a 2-1 victory over visiting RPI today in the St. Joseph's Tournament held in Farmingdale, N.Y. The Rams swept all three games in the tournament, improving to 5-4 overall.

Levine scored freshman second baseman Thomas Rydzewski (Franklin Square, N.Y.) on the sacrifice fly for the game-winning run. Rydzewski reached on an error, moved to second on a passed ball and then moved to third on a sacrifice bunt by freshman shortstop Anthony Alvino (Lindenhurst, N.Y.), before scoring on the sacrifice fly.

The game was scoreless until the fifth inning when RPI scored for the 1-0 lead on two hits. The Rams tied the game in the botton of the inning, when senior catcher Frank Scarlato (Holbrook, N.Y.) singled through the right side to score junior outfielder Terrence Bohonan (Patchogue, N.Y.) from third base.

Farmingdale State senior Chris Phelan (Patchogue, N.Y.) pitched a complete game, allowing seven hits and no walks, while striking out seven.

The Rams will next host Southern Maine for two games - Saturday, March 10 at 1:00 p.m and Sunday, March 11 at 12:00 p.m.
