MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – The Edgewood College baseball team bounced back from a season opening sweep to take a late night doubleheader from Augsburg College at Metrodome. The Eagles earned their first two wins of the season by identical 6-5 scores.

Edgewood College (2-2) drew blood first in game one, scoring a pair of runs in the top of the second inning. Sean Thompson singled and eventually scored on when Marc Ostrowski reached on a throwing error. Brad Clark, who had also singled then scored on a bases loaded double play. The Auggies answered with two runs in the bottom of the second off Eagle starter Trevor Koehn and took the lead with another run in the fourth. Koehn would throw 4.2 innings and strikeout five batters in his season debut.

Augsburg led 4-3 in the sixth inning, when the Eagles made their big move. Ryan Walker smacked a bases loaded double to right field, which scored Zach Creekmore and Alex Jaskulski. Eric Curtis followed with a RBI groundout to the shortstop, which plated Will Schlosser. Augsburg scored one in the sixth to cut the Eagles' lead to 6-5, but Joe Gura relieved Casey Geissberger and struck out Adam Carl to end the threat. Gura stayed on to pitch the seventh for his first career save. Geissberger earned his first career win by pitching one inning and allowing just one unearned run.

Walker had two hits, both doubles, and two runs batted in to lead the Eagles attack. Ryan O'Dell also added a double as the first six batters in the Edgewood College lineup all had at least one hit.

The second game started well after midnight, but those that stayed to watch saw an exciting finish. Trailing 3-2 in the bottom of the sixth inning, the Eagles rallied to take the lead. Ben Jennings led off with a double and pinch runner Schlosser moved over to third on Jaskulski's bunt single. Creekmore then tied the game with a single to right field. After Jake Thome loaded the bases with a bunt single of his own, Walker came through again with a two-run single to left field.

Augsburg tied the game in the top of the seventh on an RBI groundout by Adam Seaman, setting up a dramatic final half-inning. Ryan O'Dell singled and moved to second on Thompson's sacrifice bunt. O'Dell then moved to third prompting Augsburg relief pitcher Jeff Boresz to intentionally walk both Jaskulski and Creekmore to load the bases. Jared Raupp came on as a pinch hitter and sent a ground ball to Auggie second baseman Lou LaChappelle. LaChapelle fired to second to cut down Creekmore, but Raupp beat the return throw to the bag at first, allowing O'Dell to cross the plate with the winning run.

Four pitchers teamd up for the Eagles, led by starter Taylor Hillmann who went 4.1 innings and allowed two earned runs on five hits. Billy DeVault and Zane Medeiros picked up the middle of the game, before Brock McGinn fired the final two innings to earn his first win of the season.

Jennings and Creekmore both had two hits for the Eagles, with Jennings knocking out a pair of doubles. Walker had two runs batted in as the Eagles had a season-best 10 hits in the game.

Edgewood College begins their southern spring break trip next week with a Thursday game at Christian Brothers University in Memphis, Tenn. The Eagles will continue down to the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational for eight games the following week.
