WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – The Edgewood College baseball team escaped to Florida to find sunny skies to play ball, but St. Norbert College cast a shadow over the Eagles first spring break trip games, sweeping Edgewood College 11-7 and 17-1. The Eagles were victims of the big inning in each game, giving up a seven-run inning to St. Norbert in game one and a 10-run inning in game two.

Edgewood College gave up four runs to St. Norbert College (2-2) in the first inning, but got one back on an RBI single from Sean Thompson in the second inning. Alex Jaskulski drove another Eagle run with a double in the fourth inning, but things turned sour in the fifth inning. An Edgewood College error opened the door to a seven-run fifth inning for St. Norbert College. Jordan Powers and Garrick Fisher each had two-run singles as the Green Knights opened up an 11-2 lead.

Brandon Bartels and Ryan Walker had RBI singles in the sixth to bring the Eagles closer and Zach Creekmore had a two-out, two-run single in the seventh, but that was as close as Edgewood College would get. Thompson and Jaskulski both went 3-for-4 with an RBI, while Creekmore and Walker had two hits apiece. Trevor Koehn lasted 4.2 innings, giving up four earned runs on eight hits. Bill DeVault and Brock McGinn completed the game on the mound.

St. Norbert ended most of the Eagles' hope for a split early in game two. The Green Knight's Chris Laux crushed a grand slam home run as part of a 10-run second inning. Ryan O'Dell singled home Creekmore in the third inning, but that would be Edgewood College's only run of the game. St. Norbert College piled on seven runs over the final three innings to secure the sweep.

Edgewood College (2-4) had six hits in the game, all singles. Walker, O'Dell and Creekmore each had a hit to extend their current hitting streak to five games each. Brad Clark took the loss for the Eagles, going 1.2 innings and giving up five earned runs.
Edgewood College will try to shake off today's games with a pair of Tuesday contests against Washington College (Md.) and Framingham State (Mass.).
