No. 18 Thomas More Drops Doubleheader to Waynesburg

(CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.) - The 18th-ranked Thomas More College baseball team fell twice to Waynesburg University today (Sunday, March 25, 2012) in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) doubleheader at Thomas More Field in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.  Waynesburg won game one, 12-0, and the nightcap, 9-2.

With the sweep, the Saints fall to 9-5 overall and 1-2 in the PAC and the Yellow Jackets improve to 11-4 overall and 2-1 in the PAC.

In game one, Waynesburg scored one in the first, three in the second, four in the fourth, two in the fifth and two in the seventh for the 12-0 victory.

Junior pitcher Mike Hager (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) suffered the loss on the mound as he started and pitched four innings and gave up eight runs (all earned) on 12 hits and struck out three.

Offensively, freshman left fielder Nick Connor (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder), junior designated hitter Ryan Darner (Burlington, Ky./Covington Catholic) and sophomore third baseman Travis Miller (Erlanger, Ky./St. Henry) each had a hit for the Saints in game one.

In game two, Waynesburg scored three in the fifth and six in the sixth, while Thomas More plated one in the third and one in the seventh.

Darner led the team at the plate as he was two-for-three and sophomore right fielder Cody Makin (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder) hit a home run.

On the mound, sophomore Andy Roenker (Taylor Mill, Ky./Holy Cross) suffered the loss as he started and pitched six inning and gave up nine runs (all unearned) on 10 hits and struck out two.

Thomas More returns to the diamond on Tuesday (March 27) when it hosts Bethany College in a PAC doubleheader.  First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Thomas More Field.
