VERONA, Wis. – The Edgewood College baseball team pulled off a little more walk-off magic at Stampfl Field to earn a split with Benedictine University in their Northern Athletics Conference doubleheader. The Eagles scored the winning run in their final at-bat for the second time in three home games in a 3-2 victory. Earlier, Edgewood College lost an 11-8 slugfest to Benedictine.

Tied 2-2 heading into the bottom of the ninth inning, Zach Creekmore got the winning rally started with a single up the middle. Ryan Walker then showed bunt, but pulled the bat back and lined a rope past the shortstop to put runners on first and second with nobody out. Ryan O'Dell attempted to sacrifice on the first two pitches, but pushed them both foul. With two strikes, O'Dell tried again and laid down a good bunt up the third base line. Benedictine relief pitcher Shay Wagner attempted to throw O'Dell out at first, but his throw skipped low past first baseman Ryan Mullin, allowing Creekmore to race home with the winning run.

Senior Mike Selvaggi got the Eagles on the scoreboard, literally, in the first inning. Selvaggi dented the left-center field scoreboard with a booming home run in the second inning to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead. After Benedictine's John Cervantes tied the game with a home run in the fifth inning, the Eagles regained the lead in the bottom of the same inning on an O'Dell fielders choice RBI ground ball.

Starting pitcher Trevor Koehn was outstanding, earning his first win by limiting Benedictine to one earned run on five hits, with two strikeouts. Walker had three hits in five at-bats to lead the Eagles hitting attack. O'Dell and Selvaggi both went 2-for-4 with an RBI.

In the first game, Edgewood College (7-11, 4-2 NAC) scored in the first inning on an RBI single by O'Dell, but watched as Benedictine came back with six runs over the next three innings. Edgewood College still trailed 7-2 in the seventh inning, when the Eagles started to rally. Jake Zadra ripped a double down the left field line to score Walker from second base. Two batters later, Marc Ostrowski punched a bases loaded single into short right field to score two more runs. On the next pitch, Brad Clark scampered home on a wild pitch to cut the Benedictine lead to 7-6.

However, Benedictine would post four runs in the top of the ninth inning, with the big blow being a two-run double by Steve Cocat. In their half of the ninth, Edgewood College scored two runs a Selvaggi groundout and another Ostrowski single to get as close as 11-8. The Eagles brought the tying run to the plate, but Wagner induced a ground ball from Jake Thome to end the game.

Miles Mayer threw 8.1 innings in suffering the loss. He allowed seven earned runs, but didn't walk a batter with four strikeouts. Walker went 3-for-5 in the first game as well, giving him six hits including a double for the day. Zadra also went 3-for-5 with a double in game one. O'Dell, Ostrowski, Creekmore and Joe Gura all had two hits apiece.

Edgewood College will be back in action on Easter Monday, travelling to league leader Aurora University. The Eagles and Spartans will get underway at 2:00 p.m. at Solfisburg Park in Aurora.
