VERONA, Wis. – The Edgewood College emerged from a pivotal weekend with four wins and sole possession of fifth place in the Northern Athletics Conference, after sweeping MSOE on Sunday afternoon at Stampfl Field. The Eagles scored two runs in the bottom of the ninth in game one for a 5-4 victory, and then hung on for a 7-6 decision in game two.

Their five-game conference winning streak has pushed Edgewood College (13-17, 10-6 NAC) into fifth place, two games ahead of sixth place Concordia University Wisconsin and three ahead of Dominican and Marian in seventh place. The top six teams in the final standings qualify for the NAC Tournament.

Tied 2-2 in the eighth inning of game one, Edgewood College and MSOE played out a dramatic finish. Jake Zadra beat out an infield single which allowed Alex Jaskulski to score from third base to put the Eagles ahead 3-2. However, MSOE responded in the top of the ninth with an RBI groundout from Maxwell Poeske, followed by pinch hit, RBI single by Wes Stasik which gave the Raiders a 4-3 lead.

The Eagles opened their half of the ninth with Jake Thome and Ryan Walker reaching on MSOE fielding errors, their first two errors of the game. Brad Clark brought home Thome and moved Walker to second with a groundout tie the game at four apiece, setting the stage for Jaskulski. Jaskulski ripped a line drive into center field and Walker raced around third and into home plate with the game-winning run.

Tony Ales went eight strong innings, allowing two earned runs and striking out four batters. Joe Gura came on the ninth inning and picked up the victory. Ryan O'Dell went 3-for-3 including a double, while Jaskulski also had three hits and two runs batted in, including the game-winner. Zadra added two hits with a double, and Thome also picked up a pair of base knocks.

Both the Eagles and MSOE (6-27, 3-13 NAC) traded scores nearly every inning for the first six frames in game two. Tied 3-3 in the third inning, Ben Jennings singled down the left field line to score Mike Selvaggi from third base to give the Eagles the lead. The Raiders answered with a run in the fourth and two more in the fifth to take a 6-4 advantage. O'Dell provided a big blow in the fifth, crushing an RBI triple to deep right-center field and then scoring on a Jennings sacrifice fly to tie the game again at six.

With so many runs being scored, the sixth inning seemed an unlikely place for the game-winner, but that is where the Eagles found it. With Walker and Clark aboard, Jaskulski laid down a sacrifice bunt attempt. Raider pitcher Sam Matthies attempted to make a play on Clark at second base, but his throw went wild into center field. Walker turned the corner and scored what ultimately prove to be the game-winning run.

Casey Geissberger relieved starter Taylor Hillmann in the fifth inning and didn't give up a run over four innings of work to earn the win. Gura came back on to retire the side with nine pitches in game two to pick up his second save of the season. Jennings went 2-for-3 with a pair of RBIs to lead the Eagles' hitting attack. O'Dell went 2-for-4 with his team-leading 10th double of the season and his first triple of the year. Clark and Thome also had two hits apiece. Every starter in the batting order picked up at least one base hit.

Edgewood College will travel to the Windy City on Tuesday for a single game against NCAA Division I program Illinois-Chicago. The Eagles and Flames will start at 6:05 p.m.
