The baseball team swept a CUNYAC doubleheader from the Beavers of The City College of New York (CCNY) on Saturday at the Baseball Heaven Complex in Yaphank, New York (Long Island).

The Bearcats won 7-3 and 9-0 to stay undefeated in CUNYAC at 4-0 and 7-8 overall. The Beavers drop to 1-5 in CUNYAC and 3-14 overall.

In the 7-3 win, the Bearcats scored in every inning, except the second, totaling seven runs on eight hits in the morning contest.

They began with three runs in the first inning via a three run homer by John Yuksekol to score Nicholas Pomo-Roman and Angel Tejeda.

Yuksekol scored again in the third inning on a fielding error. Jasdeep Buttar smacked a sacrifice fly RBI in the fourth inning, Philip Loprete scored on a fielding error in the fifth, and Pomo-Roman hit an RBI single in the sixth inning to round out the scoring in the opening game 7-3 victory.

Paul Perez earned the complete game victory (7IP, 3ER, 2BB) with seven strikeouts. In the second game of the doubleheader, freshman Joseph Cali pitched the complete game shutout with only 55 pitches in one of the quickest games of the season.

Cali, who along with Andrew Lizardi earned weekly CUNYAC honors this past Monday, had an impressive line (7IP, 5H, 2K) to raise his personal record to 2-0. The Bearcats scored seven runs in the sixth inning for a line total of nine runs on 11 hits. Loprete began the scoring with a solo homer in the second inning and cleared the bases with a three run triple in the big sixth inning.

Loprete and Eric Ulino finished with three hits each, while Buttar had two.

The nine runs scored are a season-high for the Bearcats. In four CUNYAC games, the Bearcats have outscored their opponents 22-4.

The Bearcats will return to action on Tuesday, April 2, with a 7:00 pm non-conference game at SUNY-Maritime in the Bronx.
