#1 Ithaca - 4, #4 Farmingdale State - 1

Auburn, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State baseball team fell 4-1 on Thursday afternoon against top-seeded Ithaca (36-6) in their second game in the 2013 NCAA New York Regional. The Bombers scored three runs in a decisive third-inning rally and added an insurance run in the seventh inning. The Rams will now face #7 Rensselaer in an elimination game on Friday at 10:00 a.m.

Farmingdale State struck first with a run in the top of the third inning, but the Bombers answered in the bottom half of the third with three runs on four hits. Back-to-back singles with one out by Andrew Turner (Randolph, N.J.) and Christian Brown (East Greenbush, N.Y.) started the rally. Tim Locastro (Auburn, N.Y.) laced a double to right center to bring in Turner and put runners at second and third. Tim Henry's (North Allenhurst, N.J.) groundout brought home the go-ahead run and Colby Gee (Freeville, N.Y.) followed with a hit up the middle to score Locastro.

Ithaca starting pitcher John Prendergast (Clifton Park, N.Y.) went eight innings, allowed just four hits, and an unearned run. He walked two batters and had four strikeouts over 101 pitches. Jimmy Wagner (Hilton, N.Y.) pitched a perfect ninth to pick up his second save of the season. He threw nine pitches and seven were strikes.

Ithaca's insurance run came in the seventh when Locastro reached on a leadoff walk and later scored when he stole third base and scored on a throwing error.

Brown and Turner had two hits each for Ithaca. Locastro, Gee, Stark and Cameron Oathout (Gloversville, N.Y.) also had hits. Locastro's double was Ithaca's only extra-base hit, and he scored two of Ithaca's four runs.

Rams freshmen Dalton McCarthy (Manorville, N.Y.) and Jorge Ruiz (Shirley, N.Y.) each had two hits, including a double each.

With a win tomorrow, Farmingdale State will advance to the 7:45 p.m. game against the winner of Neumann and Cortland.
