Rams Knock Off #10 Marietta

Farmingdale State - 2, #10 Marietta - 1


Port Charlotte, Fla. - Farmingdale State scored a run in each of the first two innings and held off #10 Marietta for the 2-1 non-conference victory this afternoon. The Rams improved to 6-1 on the year, while the Pioneers fell to 6-3.

Senior center fielder Edward Bergmann (East Meadow, N.Y.) led off the game with a single to the pitcher and advanced to second on a throwing error. After an Anthony Alvino (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) sac bunt, junior third baseman Tom Rydzewski (Franklin Square, N.Y.) hit an RBI single to right field to give the Rams an early 1-0 advantage.

In the top of the second, Farmingdale State increased the lead to 2-0 on an RBI bunt single by freshman left fielder Andrew Karkota (Manorville, N.Y.), which scored Michael Marino (Franklin Square, N.Y.).

With two runners on and one out in the top of the fifth, sophomore pitcher Kevin Cashman (Hicksville, N.Y.) struck out junior second baseman Christian Demko (Xenia, Ohio). Freshman pitcher Daniel Tierney (Patchogue, N.Y.) relieved Cashman and forced the final out to end the scoring threat.

The Pioneers cut the deficit to 2-1 in the sixth inning after plating an unearned run.

Sophomore Alex Weingarten (East Rockaway, N.Y.) pitched a 1-2-3 ninth inning to earn the save and seal the victory for Farmingdale State.

Marino was 3-for-4 at the plate with a run scored, while Rydzewski was 1-for-4 with an RBI.

Cashman allowed no runs on four hits while striking out three in 4.2 innings of work for Farmingdale State, while Tierney earned the win after throwing 0.1 innings. Weingarten tallied his first save of the season after pitching three scoreless innings.

The Rams next will face Baldwin Wallace on the second day of the Snowbird Classic on Saturday, March 15th at 1:00 p.m. For live stats of this game - click HERE.
